off grid stories?

I guess most of us are stuck in the old daily 9 to 5 grind ( i know i am).
but i love to hear or read the stories of folks who live off grid back in the deep woods and who make their own living without such dependence on the system to feed and clothe them.
thought maybe some of you guys had such stories of yourself or someone you knew.

I have a friend who lives pretty much of the grid...he hasn't had a job in 10+ years..lives on 20 acres in the woods in a shack. uses solar energy and a well. lives a very secluded and simple life. He gets bored I think...but he won't ever change. You can live this way as long as you don't care what other people think...most of us would say.."well,...I don't care what anybody thinks" but ....hanging out with this guy makes me realize that we all have our social boundaries that we, as a group, impose on ourselves. He is really free of what all of us think. It gets him into trouble, as he will confront you if he thinks your stepping on his freedom, rights, or sense of justice...he never backs down in an argument, which can make him bad company. I wonder if this is from living out in the woods for long stretches of time, yeah, not much to wonder about...lol Gene
