Off-Line Knife Referrals

I've been on a roll recently in terms of getting friends and family to buy knives.
During hunting season I texted my friend a link to the Spyderco Bow River and almost immediately he responded that he ordered one from BHQ.
He loves it (except for the color of scales) and used it to dress and skin multiple deer this season.
Later another friend and I were talking and he said he missed his Kabar Dozier that he lost. It was a gift from me. He asked if there was a better budet option for his tastes. I said not really and he pulled out his phone and ordered one from Amazon.
Over Christmas, I sharpened my Dad's Delica and told him about the new Endela and how much I like mine. Yes it comes serrated. Boom, he ordered one from Knifecenter.
So how about you? Any successful knife referrals that you made not counting on Bladeforums and the like?

I have worked with most of the same guys for over a decade. I try to get them to spend money on knives about every chance I get. :D

Most recent ones have been a ZT 0909 when they were discontinued and marked down to about $100, a Buck Trident (carbon fiber s90v Buck 110), Para 2 black dlc, Socom elite two tone drop point with green handle, and a bunch of reddish g10 handled Spyderco Tenacious knives that were on sale for like $22. I try to get them to buy knives, and another guy tries to get us to buy guns. Everyone wins.

Coworkers mainly. I show them knives at work and a couple guys will buy alot of times if its a budget blade which helps me unload some of those to upgrade and helps them have an edc or a rotation addition. Kershaws, kabar dozier hunter, ontario arrow, twosun, and sanrenmus to name a few. One guy is into the good stuff though and we have done lots of swapping buying and selling. Miltary, Ultratech, ZT 0452cf, cs code 4, mini grip, and others. Enjoy talking knives with him as well as we have similar tastes in cutlery.

So far:
Friend:
  • He bought: Cold Steel Recon1, Spyderco Resilience (x4), others
  • I gave him: Spyderco DLC Military, a few Cold Steel models, a custom fixed blade
Friend: I gave him a CRKT Otanashi Noh Ken, some CS tomahawk (Christmas, birthday)
Friend: I gave him a CS machete (Christmas)
Previous manager: I gave him a DLC Kershaw Leek for Christmas
Coworker: I gave her a DLC Kershaw Leek for Christmas. She already owned a plain Leek
Coworker: I sold him a CRKT Provoke
Coworker: He bought a CRKT CEO based on our conversations. Says he's thinking of getting a PM2 or a Para 3
Coworker: I sharpened his Leek. He's been asking about different possible models to buy since. Not sure if he's bought anything though

I know there's more over the years, but I can't recall at the moment.

I have good luck with my current co workers. 3 of them knew some about quality knives and pushed them to give up their crap for something better. They carry a 940, pm2, and the other one got addicted. He has like 4 bm sticker, grips, pm2's, and I think he got a Winkler that he always wanted now.
Then the guys who never even carried a knife have a Spyderco persistence, tenacious, dragonfly, and a delica.
So now pretty much we all have something cool now :)

And one of the old timers have a kershaw leek from forever ago. I'll have to get a pic of it and post it here. Its quite a sight. He uses the broken tip as a flat head screwdriver lol.

Oh, and the trainer where I work (his son has the pm2), has a pm2 and a waved delica as well. But that wasn't me, that was the knife sickness spreading.
