What do you carry to deal with trees that have fallen across the trail???

I find that on a dirt bike I can usually manage a way around, but on an ATV that usually isn't possible. I carry a hatchet or full-on axe sometimes (if I am on a utility quad), but I'm a "light and fast" kind of rider and don't enjoy getting loaded down with a lot of heavy gear.

With a Jeep, you can have the advantage of a very strong winch, and even a chainsaw if it comes to that....

take a look at Gerber's "Brush Thinner" I have used this extensively, maintaining trails, chopping dead standing oak for shelter buildeing, etc. very light weight, lighter than my pistol, compact (<20") and ergonomic. It's my answer tho the kukri.

But what if you have a large diameter tree across the trail, and home is 10 miles ahead, or 100 miles if you have to turn around and go back the way you came (and you don't have 100 miles of fuel left)????

Last winter (snow riding in the mountains), we had a rather large tree across the road. Everybody took turns hacking at it, and then a Jeep came up and that was enough that he could put his winch on it and break it in half.
