I have the Bushcrafter and so far I'm really happy with the knife, but hate the sheath. The knife doesn't quite fit right in it. When you insert the knife it has a tendenancy of slicing into the sheath, which has resulted in some huge slices in leather on the inside of the sheath. It has nearly sliced through the front of the sheath. When you slide the knife in, about 70 percent of the time it tracks right into slicing the leather. If you are really careful you can push it all the way down without cutting into the leather.

Also the knife doesn't feel like it is "locked" in and I don't trust that it wouldn't fall out while in the bush. I was going to take it on a four-day trek into the Grand Canyon next week for a review, but I will have to wait until I find an adequate sheath, which is a real bummer.

Anyone know of an alternate sheath that will fit? Maybe even a kydex or a good leather sheath that isn't prone to slice.

JRE Industries used to make a sheath for me. They still have a knife, and perhaps the template they created for the sheath. I am sure they would be able to whip you up a square bottom sheath.

I made up a few sheaths before I realized that the issue you are talking about could happen. So, I modified the template and I do not think the same thing will occur now. If you want me to try and make you another sheath of the same design, I will. Either that, or if you want a simple foldover sheath, I can guarantee you will have no issues with that. You just won't have the square bottom bushcrafter look.

Thanks,
B

The JRE's work very well on my BGA bushy. I put a dangler on it and can use it both ways.--KV

I have the square bottom with dangler, but I'll send it back to you in exchange for the foldover sheath if that is possible, presuming that one fits better.

It's hard to see in the photo, but there are several slices on the inside of the sheath from where the knife tracks right into the right side of the sheath. From the outside you can actually see a crease that corresponds with where the slices are on the inside. I'm not 100% certain it is related to the slices, but I think so.

I had a problem with my OTM sheath also.

The stitching that held the belt loop on came undone and the knife and sheath fell off my belt.

Luckily I noticed!

That was the second time that had happened to me, although the first one was not made by Brian.

That time it was a nessmuk I had just bought and I was backpacking. Thankfully I was in the lead and my pal behind me saw it fall and snagged it.

It sort of redeemed her in her eyes because I had loaned her one of my knives on a previous trip (Microtech LUDT) at a stop on the trail, she didn't give it back to me but sat it somewhere there and it was lost:thumbdn: She had felt bad about it ever since so finding the one I lost was a great thing!
