I've been wanting a good quality scandi grind bushcraft knife. I missed the boat on the Spyderco. I happend up on the Off the Map knives website (the backyard bushman) and from the picture of the knives on his website, they look great. Based on the photos the quality looks fantastic and he offers all kinds of different steel (O1, A2, D2, etc), handle, and sheath options. His prices are reasonable.

Anyone with experience with these knives?

I'm really keen on the scandi neck knife and the bushcrafter.

IIRC Brian's not making knives for a while, or there's a really long wait list. I could be wrong though.

I'd love to get my mitts on one of his scandis though, his Bushcrafter is pretty much ideal for what it is for me.

Brian makes excellent knives. The handle on his bushcrafter is one of the best I have ever used. he is an outdoorsman which I think is important because he knows what a knife needs to do.

i am pretty sure andy roy (fiddleback forge) is making his design now if you really want one

I have one of his blades. BGA is a really talented knifemaker. The one I have has a very even grind, excellent heat treat and the fit and finish are great.

I'm not sure how long his waiting list is but in my opinion worth waiting:thumbup:

This is the one he made for me. It's a shorter version of the one Tony M designed and I really love it.

Here's one of his Bushcraft models (Spooky's) in the middle

That is sweet looking and exactly what I'm looking for. I really like the Micarta handle over a wood one.

A big +1 to all of that. Brian's knives are top notch IMO.

Here's mine...

I was sharpening my bushcrafter from BGA last night and thinking how lucky I was to get one made before he slowed down.My favorite knife! Mine has Texas mesquite scales.--KV

I've got two of Brian's knives - a Tony Model scandi in Cocobolo and a convexed Whitetail Skinner in... African Blackwood, I think. The fit and finish are exceptional. The Tony Model doesnt fit my hand quite perfectly, so I'm thinking of selling it here shortly. The Whitetail Skinner is a PERFECT hunter/skinner. Great size, great grind, great ergonomics on the handle.

Brian makes great stuff, overall top notch edged tools. I've got some pictures of them around here somewhere... I'll have to see if I can dig them up...

I used to have one, and it sucked.

APRIL FOOLS!!!
Seriiously, Brians knives are very well made, and you will love it...good luck finding one, I believe he has cut way back on his Knife making right now, so that he can focus more on family. Good for him, bad for us knife junkies.

Yep, if you can, get one:thumbup: It may be a bit of a wait, but it's well worth it:D

I'll also HIGHLY suggest one of Koyote's leukus, if you haven't seen them yet he has his own subforum in the maker's section. He does a spectacular job on traditional style puukos.

I've been meaning to ask the same question. So does anybody know definitively if he's making knives at all, or is the grinder current shut off :(
I had planned to order a Tony at some point.

Brian's taking orders guys, he just slowed down a little. Just e-mail him and he will put you on the waiting list. I just got mine about a month ago and only waited 2 or 3 months. They are one hell of good knife!!!

I've an OTMO Terrasaur -- top notch knife and an excellent sheath. Brian is meticulous. Highly recommended.

I don't know what Brian's wait list is, but last I looked it was not outrageous. The longer you ponder whether the wait is "worth it," the longer you will be without your knife. I have (and use) three of Brian's knives and can tell you that he knows how an edge should work, his handles are excellent and he is very meticulous. He is also a great person, which is why he fits in here.

Hey guys,

I have changed my official statement from "slowing down" to "not a guaranteed delivery date" :D I am still working quite hard, and at a decent pace. The only difference is before I was telling people that their knife would be "no later than XXX date." I would let everything around me drop to make sure that happened. Now, I stick to my own schedule, and if I slip a day or two, I don't stress about it.

Thanks for all the kind words too :D
