Got this 4 1/2 lb PLUMB at auction last week for $16 nz. I am guessing she spent her working life on a forestry fire truck, by the look of the paint-job.

She also has the letters S.F.S. engraved just below the PLUMB brand. May mean ? Fire Service or
? Forestry Service.

This type of axe was very popular here, back in the day of the Bushman. I think she's a beauty and will be leaving all the paint 'as is'. Just rub the surface rust from her cheeks and oil all over.

16 bucks
You have got to be kidding me! That's a helluva find there Frank... :)

I'm going to be on the look out for one of those 2kg Plumbs come spring and when my hens start laying good again. Then I should have some extra $ ;)

I've sure seen some nice ones in the past!
Would you please post up some pics of her once you get her cleaned up and all... I sure would like to see them :)

ETA...
What's the length of the haft? It looks to be 32". Is that correct?

man that is a big head.
looks real good, save some of the history is always a good idea.
i like your axe rack, i gotta figure something out for my shop, axes are leaning up against benches and laying on tables taking up space for no good reason.

all good

Hunter8...We have a online auction site named 'trademe'. A smaller version of 'e bay'.

Hello Bear my old friend. $16 nz at today's exchange rate equates to $12.98 U.S. So a real bargain for me. And yes 32" haft, Your (and my) favorite length.

I know what you mean 'markv'. I would like to have a whole wall for axe display. Preferably an inside wooden wall. I have seen axes on external walls with warped hafts. I like to turn mine around now and again.

Oh looks like it is only in nz. I am jealous because that is a sweeeeet axe!!!!

Frank, Your Plumb Connecticut pattern is really sweeeet. I have a few Kellys and Collins Connecticuts, but that is the first Plumb that I remember seeing. She's a keeper.

Generally OO, those 41/2 lbders from 'down under' are considered a 'Tasmanian' pattern. I have a couple of them and there are differences between the two.
