So here is where we are supposed to do this?
What happens to just what happens?
The definition of art is creative and in the now.
We should live in the present tense.
Wirh Bill you could think, say and he would not run away from you.
We will see how this works out, if I am not banned.
I fully expect to die at any moment.

Warlock,

I felt very bad when Spark took this action to split the HI Forum into the Cantina and the Forum, but I feel that it is working out. I visit both areas.

The bottom line is that we are guests in Sparks home. As guests we have a duty to the Host, a duty to live by his rules or go somewhere else.

This is not a democracy, no more than my home is a democracy to visitors. They play by my rules or I throw them out.

There is a story about a monk and his student walking through the jungle. They came to a river and were about to cross when they noticed a young woman also trying to cross.

She was afraid of the water so the older monk offered to carry her across.

The monk and his student walked on in silence until they stopped for the night.

Finally the young monk said, "Master, I don't understand. Are we not supposed to keep ourselves from the touch of woman?"

The elder monk said, "What woman?"

"The woman at the river."

The elder monk replied, "I left her at the river. Are you still carrying her?"

Get my point?

Hi Warlock,

I hope that you do not feel that I am dissing you. I do not mean to seem like I am.

I have an idea that you and I are a lot alike. I like your "plain-spokedness."

We need more of this.

Now we have a place to play and not worry about being "OT."

Some people don't like us playing darts in their Forum, so we can play in the Cantina.

no-one's freedom has been curtailed by splitting the two forums.

we're quite lucky, in fact....this subforum should really be a "paying members only" forum (like Around the Grinder in ShopTalk). It is a special priviledge to have the H.I. Cantina...and have it free.

Bladeforums is the largest (by traffic and membership) knife forum on the internet. Where are all the banner ads (like other forums)? There are none. One of the founding principles of bladeforums was to have free membership but without the ads, popups, etc. There is a cost associated with running all of this, of course...and that's why there are membership options.

Things change. I for one am very grateful to Spark for allowing us place to "play" at no extra cost to us. Subforums chew up more bandwidth and require more time. To have this offered to us free of charge is a great gift. Think of how many wonderful guys and gals we might lose if the Cantina became a paying memeber only clubhouse. Spark would have every right to recoup his loss by charging us for this service. He chose not to, to eat the cost, to give us a place to call our own..for all of us. The amount of rule bending that Spark has allowed HI's forum (and now subforum) is pretty amazing.
I liked it better when things were spontanious. It was easier. It felt freer. However, I also liked it when Trix cereal was round and not fruit shaped. Things have changed.
We don't have to agree with why Spark did what he did, but we do have to be grateful that he met us halfway.

Jake

I'm just glad we have a place to gather and talk. I wasn't sure how I felt about it at first, but now I see it as a good thing.

I looked at my posting history a little while ago (from before the branching off of "the cantina) and pretty much everyone of them was prefaced by "OT: " ;)

Me to0, Rob. Both statements fit me exactly as well.

I was leery of this, but it has worked out great. I must admit, it keeps things sorted and neater. Not too troublesome, to boot. I've no problem with the change, and I thank Spark for giving us special consideration.

Chris
