Well, since his trip to the mailbox today, a young man on the other side of this great continent of ours has a knife collection that is four times as big as it was this morning. He sounded like he's had a rough year, so I decided it was time to help the kid out. Now, if he can keep Grandma from finding his treasures and getting excited, and if he can keep them away from the unknowing eyes of the sheeple he's surrounded by, we'll have a new collector in our midst. I think the bug has already bit him. :D Join me in wishing him luck. His name is Ian.

I moved this to The blade Discussion Forum because I know someone is going to ask what you sent him.

What did you send him? ;)

You were right. So, Dr. Mudd, what did you send this future knifenut?

Oooooooooops. Sorry I chose the wrong sub-forum here.

I just thought it was time to help somebody who sounds deserving, so I sent the boy a new Frost Clipper from Mora (black over green handle, carbon steel blade), my trusty Victorinox Cadet I've carried for several years, a tiny new Cold Steel fixed blade (sharp as **** but not good for much), a couple of new but not very expensive typical stockman-style small to medium size folders (Schrade and Remington, not oldies, but not Chinese), a tiny Shrade keychain lockback, P-38 & P-51 GI can openers (Ya gotta have one!), new BSA small fire sparker, new neck lanyard with swivel clip, keychain folding screwdriver set, a whistle, and a tiny tube of oil for his folders.

When you find a deserving kid you might want to do something like this, but not necessarily this many all at once. I just put together enough to mostly fill the box I had. It was the box my Cold Steel Bushman came in, but I turned it inside out for obvious reasons.

Well, the boy sounded like he deserved a break, besides the bad one his leg got in the past year. I e-mailed him with a lot of questions which I think he answered honestly and candidly, and he sounds like an A student with his head screwed on straight. He's just young and living in an area where he is not allowed to buy knives at normal retail outlets due to his age. He had found and bought himself a couple of older knives that he had found at garage sales and second hand shops I think he said, but he wrote into the forums asking about sharpening them and I noticed him. I was hoping he wouldn't think I was some kind of pervert contacting him! Anyway, I think he liked his cutlery care package. I'm a long way from rich, but sometimes it's good to help somebody. Most of us have some "spare knives" around that will look mighty good to somebody who hasn't had the time or opportunities to accumulate the things us old codgers have.

That was a very nice gesture, Dr. Mudd. May your generosity revisit you 3 fold.

The world would be a far better place if more people thought like you do!

May God bless you.:)

(And may the rest of us follow your example!)

Ben
