Tomorrow the family and I are off to Wyoming to play around in a few National Parks, we will be staying in Jackson Hole and vistiting the Grand Teton National Park & Yellow Stone National Park. Has anyone been there, and can you recomend any thing to do in the area. The wife already has a white water rafting trip and a horse back trip planned, of course we will be doing site seeing, hiking, and alot of picture taking. Ay suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks - Ron

Hey! This was my 1000 post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went there 3 or 4 years ago. Jackson has some nice restaurants. Wildlife viewing is wherever you happen to be looking. Elk and antelope all over the place. Check out the Jenny Lakes trailhead. Good mellow hiking that follows a stream for miles. I had snow/rain lightning (September) and one big moose on the trail. Great views of the Tetons. Other than that follow the crowds to the geysers.

I was lucky enough to spend a little time in Wyoming ten years ago. A buddy of mine and I stayed in a rough-sawn board cabin on a ranch a few miles out of the town of Buffalo. We sat on the porch shelling peanuts and sipping whiskey while we watched the sun go down behind the hills where the cattle and the antelope were bedding down near each other for the night. Man, what a great place to live! Try to go through Buffalo and spend the night there at least. It has some neat places to visit. Ever heard of the Johnson County Wars? The Hole in the Wall Gang? Crazy Woman Pass? That's the Buffalo area. It's kind of a big little town with a little airport, a clinic, grocery stores, post office, stores to buy whatever you need, BLM office where you can get maps, etc., etc. When I was there it was late springtime and from the main street downtown I could easily see the snow covered mountains a few miles away in the background. Powder Pass is near there, too. I think the elevation there was about 9,660 feet, high enough for this flatlander to know the air was thinner. The snow was cleared off the road through the pass, but it was still three feet thick next to the road. I loved Buffalo, but I guess you can tell. Don't miss the big museum in Cody, either. You'll need a whole day to even begin to do it justice. Sheridan has some fun things to see there, too. We stopped in a farm and ranch store there and I wanted to buy a lot more things than I could afford. :D Oh, and swing by Devil's Tower, too, if you can. They had a great gift shop with affordable goodies at the foot of the "tower." This is the place the aliens landed in that movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It's quite a rock formation!

Me and the family took a trip to Yellowstone last summer. Went car camping in the campgrounds. Sure was posh, heated bathrooms, showers, market down the road, etc. And rather crowded. But we got to do some neat hiking, saw lots of bison, bear, caught some large trout from a boat.

On the eastern side of WY, Devil's Tower is a nice visit. A little further southeast, in SD, Deadwood was alright, like a miniature Las Vegas. Mt Rushmore is close by. And also close by, and most impressive to me, was the Crazy Horse monument.

ron-- have a great time... i'm sure you'll take lots of pics... :D

i really love that whole area.. i need to get back over there one of these days.....:o

Great area. As I remeber there is a road that loops around much of the park. Takes about a day, But well worth the drive.

While in the Tetons check if the NPS still offers ranger-led hikes. You'll learn a lot from people who hike there for a living, and they sometimes (used to anyway) lead hikes to places where the public doesn't often go.

Lots and Lots of pictures!

Well first day in the National Parks, and the family and I hiked 10 miles in the Grand Tetons. We saw 17 Buffalo, 2 Mule deer, 8 Elk, 4 Yellow Belly Marmot, 1 Field Mouse, several Chipmunks. All in all a great day. I love this Verizon wireless card. The photos will have to wait until I get back home.:D

Hey Myaka if you get the chance Mount Washburn is a great hike in Yellowstone. Good trail with a spectacular view of the park.

Enjoy!
