Clampdaddy just posted bug out blades .
I didnt wanna hijack his thread and anytime i post in general discussion or community centre i dont usually get too many responses so i said id post it here to see what other hogs carry and are into .
1.what backpack .do you carry or use as a get home bag or b.o.b
2.why you like this bag
I myself am currently carrying a rush 24 in od green was real happy to get but i actually hate the thing it doesnt sit well on me and i riddin several 2 hour journeys on my harley with it and maybe 10 to 15 woods and hiking excursions .dont get me wrong its got plenty of storage but hurts my back compared to any other backpack or rocket pak ive used.
I dont like where it sits or the straps compared.to maxpeds ive owned the straps feel weak a waste of money imho.

Yep if you want to carry weight for long distances, don't go for tactical packs, get a proper hiking pack.

My main hiking pack:

Stiff internal frame, big chunky padded shoulder straps and hip straps that sit directly on the hips to get the weight off your shoulders:

It's a Mountain Designs Ramshead 40, discontinued now. The thick canvas shell is bombproof (I've scraped this thing through thick vegetation on a hundred hikes), can't find many hiking packs made out of this stuff any more, they're all moving to the thin lightweight fabric. I've carried it on 40km + hikes and it stays comfortable the whole time.

I have been eyeing up an essl ru502 34litre pack but am unsure of the material.tha ks for input nice pack the classic rucks seem a better option

I agree. Hiking/climbing bags are going to be significantly more comfortable and give you a greater range of motion. You just want to choose one that doesn't go past your waste for riding.

The tactical type bags are mostly designed to look a certain way but are typically too wide to be carried comfortably for any kind of distance.

I currently use a Mystery Ranch Front. It's a bit over the top since it's in multicam but I got a screaming deal on it. Great for day hikes but I'm not sure how it'd perform after a couple of days in a row.

My GHB bag is a Hill People Gear Tarahumara with a MoLLE insert. It’s only a 16 liter bag, but it’s only intended to support my moving 20 miles or less. HPG’s harness system is fantastic for putting a lot or a little weight on it and have it function perfectly. With the insert you can make a pretty decent trauma roll that can go over less emergent items. AND it doesn’t look very tactical (big plus if you’re trying to look a bit more nonchalant).

I was using a 25 litre rocket pack from irish defence forces .until the chihuahua got the side zips its was better than the rush but lacked a back pad but was still more comfortable than the rush .
The maxpeds i had were rectangular and same width so never had any issue except they are only good for a day bag cos when i loaded em up they pushed on my lower back and bounced a bit so it was like being soft punched repeatedly after 3 or 4 hrs it sucked

I am actually looking for a medium pack. I have small day hike packs that also serve as Bobs, and I have the huge week or more excursion packs. My mid size pack is an eberhard and it is to dam heavy. The dam pack feels like it weighs more than my large packs and I am sure it does.

Golite doesn’t make packs anymore, or I’d suggest those for mid-size. I have a couple that have performed well for years. Like Cobalt, my bobs are basically daypacks. I don’t plan on living out of one—it’s just to get me out or get me in.

My biggest problem with cheap packs is the zipper. I have yet to have a cheap pack with a zipper that has lasted. The more expensive packs have zippers that actually last with lots of use.

I have a front loading Osprey daypack (I forget which model). I can easily access anything I need. Also I blend in.
Several years ago there was a bugout bag thread on Bladeforums and a LEO said to not get anything tactical.
If they where dealing with crowds and saw a tactical person they would say "That's a Gun Guy, get him over here" and search Mr Tactical.

I think about stuff like that too. I like to keep a bag that is bigger than really need so it looks kinda empty, I don't like bright colors and I don't like bags that look like something a yuppie hiker (soft target) would carry. I have another bag that I will use depending on where I'm going to be. It is a military surplus bag but it is far from tactical looking and I think I could actually beat someone to death with it. Lol!

I use a Dragon Egg 2 by Direct Action as a medium pack.

The Rush 24 is the GHB that I talk about in the other thread. I’ve been using it a couple years, and have hiked some with it. Hiking is not it’s forte, but I’ve proven to myself I can do it. If I KNOW that I’m going to be putting in many miles or many hours under pack, my favorite without going overboard is the Kelty MAP3500. It’s exclusive to Amron International. It has more adjustable shoulder straps, and a great hip belt.

If I had known about it before I got my Second MAP, I would have gotten the Raven (I think it’s called) from Kelty. Very similar or same suspension, but some PALS webbing. Makes it easier to set up with my two FAKs.

Sorry, not Raven. Strike 2300.

Reading this thread through, I should add that you can’t swing a dead cat where I live w/out hitting someone “Tactical.” And if you recognize that phrase, it might be a hint. Never heard it til I moved here.

or mariposa 60 pack

That mariposa looks ten times better than the topo pack for any kind of serious hiking. Mariposa has excellent hip straps and shoulder straps; topo has almost no hip strap to speak of. Mariposa has internal frame and sit pad back which you can remove to sit on when having a rest. Also has bigger capacity. Topo bag looks like an inner city book bag to me.
