My sister just got diagnosed with the flu (no word if it's h1n1 without sending a test out). Today I start getting symtoms as well.

Any advice? I don't want to see a doc since I don't have any insurance. Don't know if I have flu Or something else but I plan on getting plenty of hot fluids and restraining myself to the bedroom.

Thanks

grin and bear it. get a thermometer and watch your temp. It'll most likely go up, but not much. If it goes over 103, get some medical attention.

Sleep, and fluids, are about the best bet. I'm currently fighting it off myself. Not fun, but this years seems fairly mild. Granted, last year's nearly killed me...

I am feeling a bit sick as well...I just got back from Walgreens with thermaflu, cough med, vics vapor rub, thermometer, and orange juice I am going to try and knock this out before it gets serious

for tonight have some towels and a bowl of water well within your reach, I had a fever coming so quickly once I could only just throw a towel wet with mineral water (nothing else in my reach over my legs before I was in some kind of lala-land.
If you have paracetamol, keep that close as well. If you don't, try have someone bringing you some.

Rosehip tea is good. Rosehip provides vitamin c in a form that survives the heat from the boiling water for a longer time than any other plant I know.

Make sure you check with somebody regularly, if you get a fever and it won't go down you need medical attention.

I'm an er nurse and I've been taking care of a lot of "flu syndrome" patients. We actually stopped doing the swine flu test bc if you test positive for flu A it's over a 90% chance its swine flu. Unless you're pregnant, really old, or immunocompromised already you're fine. Treat it like any other flu, control the fever (100 is ok) lots of fluids, rest, and stay home so you don't pass it on. Eventually most of us will get it, and most of us will handle it just fine. It's miserable, but you'll live.

Meh. Flu vaccine made me so sick the last few years I couldn't keep water down. Lost 15 pounds of muscle mass in two weeks. Got admitted to the hospital, had IV's going into both arms because I was so dehydrated. People are swamping the hopsital 3 blocks away from where I live, funny part is the first 20 years of my life I just stuck it out. Nothing cures seasonal sickness like Marines medicine-load yourself up with wool and cotton layers and sweat it out. STAY HYDRATED, stock up on a week's supply of decongestant, nyquil, soup and crackers. You need calories, your body burns alot of energy working up a fever and trying to fight off infection. If you go in, this is exactly what the doc is going to tell you, whether it's seasonal flu or H1N1.

Dreading it. I cought a 24 bug from friends...I didn't feel that bad, I was just throwing up and dirreah and I still am not back to my normal level and that was two weeks ago. I hope your sister is feeling better and your family doesn't get it.

Plenty of rest always helps me. A good 16 hours of sleep and I feel great the next day.
