Can't remember if I've mentioned it before but I brought one of these home from the library and my wife grabbed and started reading it. Now she can't stop talking about the characters in it, and I have to explain from the earlier books how they got that way.

They are referred to by the author as his "Montana mysteries" and involve a Metis ( french/indian ) named Gabriel Du Pre. Bowen uses the french sentence structure with english words to put things together with a different but understandable point of view. And he portrays the people so delightfully. Nice folks, you wouldn't mind having for neighbors. Everyday Joe Schmucks except for this or that which makes them interesting.

Just wanted to tip off those of you who enjoy reading a good book that if these characters were real, some of them would be part of this forum.
