I thought I'd post this here where many wood gurus dwell, this one has me stumped. Reminds me of Cactus but it's fairly hard.
It is quite pale, the darker areas are dyed,I'm sanding it out. I bought it as "unknown burl", thought some of you folks may have seen it before.
I bought the Enzo blade and the scales from a scandi supplier but he had no idea what it was and sells a lot of curly birch. It Does look similar to your sample but any birch I've handled was much harder than this.
Hi Robin, Your first guess, Cactus, seems correct to me. The dark spots are where the cactus holds water. They make furniture out of it so it has to be pretty hard.
