Question for the group. I purchase from fellow hogs quite a bit but there is a problem that always rears its ugly head. A full inbox! It has happened to me and many others that purchase from the forum. How do we know when our inbox is getting full? I have done several searches to see if there is any method to know ahead of time and have not found anything. I look at the for sale page every day, several times to be honest. I often see the message that your inbox is full and it even happened to me more than once. For the life of me I can not figure out where to see when the limit is reached. Once there was only one page and it said it was full. So it does not seem to be so much. Does anyone know how to monitor our inbox so when we purchase and send a PM then the transaction will be completed. I will see the seller posting in the for sale ad that "your inbox is full" when trying to send payment information back to me. I understand that this is a general question but our sales forum is really busy compared to the rest, so I figured you all would have the most experience. Sometimes when there is a hot sale, there are lots of messages going back and forth. Being able to get a quick PM is the difference between getting the grail and being one second off. Leave it to the hogs to solve the issue.

Look at Folder Controls near the bottom of the page. You should see something like this:

"Inbox contains 9 messages. You have 9 messages stored, of a total 100 allowed."

You should also check to see if your settings are saving sent msgs, which I believe also count toward the 100 msg limit.

Thank you. I have never noticed that. I did Google Searches, searched the site. Nothing. OK feel like an idiot now. Appreciate the help.

Lol, yw. No worries, it happens man. I certainly have my fair share of "D'oh!" moments as well.

This problem is why I very much prefer to do business by email, not PMs. Then the complete record of any transaction can be kept forever.

In contrast, there is a member of BF who will only communicate by PM. If you can't send or receive PMs, then he won't do business with you.

I hear you rg especially the points of the permanency benefits of email...BUT....

the problem I have with doing business via email is that I sometimes <most times? who knows when you don't get them to begin with?> don't get emails sent thru BF.

Also, I've had a lot of members tell me they never got my email I sent.

For example, me & BladeRunner's been trying to get a deal done on a BS sheath for over a month...why so long to get a measley sheath deal closed when both parties are willing, you ask?

The answer: we've been TRYING to communicate primarily via BF email delivery system...neither one of us has been receiving one another's emails.

Heck, I had to get his attention by posting an OT post in one of his recent unrelated threads when I saw he was online to consummate the deal.

YMMV, but I've found PM's more reliable when timing is crucial to grab a listing...having said that I still TRY to follow up with an email...who knows how many have ever made it there, tho.

Thanks for the information guys. I try to use both PM, post and email if possible. I want to ensure all avenues are approached. With that in mind, I often get emails being dumped in trash folders, or advertisement folders by gmail. I have to search the name in order to find them and pull them back to inbox. These are not new emails mind you. Sometimes the second or third will just magically appear in the promotions folder. No clue how. Better yet, they float into social folder that I rarely check. So its true with emails, you never know. Frustrating to say the least. Fortunately we got some real good people on here that are more than patient in most cases. I have only had one case where the seller put me on a short time limit of a few hours or else it goes to the seconds person. I was at work and got home in time to meet the deadline. I honestly was not too happy on that though. I had sent a PM, posted a message on the forum as well asking for Paypal or payment options. This was done at lunch maybe around noonish. I got home about 4 hours later with about 30 minutes left until the blade went to seconds. The message was a reply to my PM so I know he got it. Now I know its sellers choice, but I cant set on the computer waiting for a reply. I waited at lunch for a reply more than an hour and got nothing. The PM must have came in after I left. I guess they were a "motivated" seller.

I prefer to use only PM and PayPal. PayPal appears to provide all the protection I need. Then again, knives are not a "business" for me. I buy some thinking I might like them. I might sell them if I decide not to keep them for some reason.

I prefer not to have hundreds of people I do not know sending me emails making offers of $50 for a knife I bought from Busse for $380 + $25 shipping that I then list on BladeForums for $450 including PayPal fees and shipping. I also prefer not to receive email solicitations because someone on a forum decided to "share" my personal or business email address.
