Well I hope you folks don't mind me adding this video, it's a diverse place so I guess it's OK?

I remember a thread about bodybuilding that ended up getting a bit wild. Well it got me thinking as to what fitness and strength is all about.

The young man in this video is Danny MacAskill and he's perhaps one of the most accomplished riders of this style.

Please watch all of the video, it gets better and better.

Filmed over the period of a few months in and around Edinburgh by Dave Sowerby, this video of Inspired Bicycles team rider Danny MacAskill (more info at www.dannymacaskill.com) features probably the best collection of street/street trials riding ever seen. There's some huge riding, but also some of the most technically difficult and imaginative lines you will ever see. Without a doubt, this video pushes the envelope of what is perceived as possible on a trials bike.

Very impressive.

Alot of the things he does pretty much don't seem possible. Makes me wonder how his bikes and body take the drops.

My favorite parts are when he dissapears off an edge or set of steps and a group of people run over and look to see the mangled body at the bottom only to see him leasurly riding away, no doubt wondering what had happened.

This is how we roll in Portland, Oregon.

Guys who can do that sort of thing blow my mind.

Here's another.

A couple things to note when you are trying to wrap your head around this:

The bikes don't have seats. This provides a lot more area for the rider's legs to take the shocks.
Also I think the bikes are probably direct drive, so they can pedal backwards.

Joben, you're right about the lack of seat and the direct drive and I think that's the same guy. I think Danny MacAskill comes from the Isle of Skye, not much for teenagers to do up there! Apparently some studio in Hollywood pays him to be a stunt rider for them, he's also appearing in lots of adverts in the UK and around the world.

I've also heard that because of the crahes he has, he eats painkillers like sweets!

P.S.
I'm glad Boats turned up!

wow. i hope he has good health insurance!

National Insurance (which covers health, unemployment and pension) comes directly out of our wage (so in all but name it's another income tax), if you're in full time education or not working you don't pay anything. Medical care is free at the point of use and we don't have to take proof of I.D. or fill in forms at the hospital.

I'm not saying our system is better or that Americans should adopt it, and I don't want this thread to dissapear up it's own arse in politics, I was just trying to explain our situation to Mrs.Shotgunner11.

Anyway, here he is in a pop music video.

That is truly amazing!!!! I used to freestyle when I was young ( a very very long time ago) , but that guy must have some magical powers, some of the stuff he does seems to defy gravity.

Joben, you're right about the lack of seat and the direct drive

you mean fixed gear, not direct drive. Any bike with a chain does not have direct drive.

Trials bikes DO have flywheels and are not fixed gear. If they were fixed gear it would be impossible to land and absorb shock properly by stretching with the pedals moving on you. you can see him several times gliding without pedaling if you don't believe me. they are however single speeds. and just to further nitpick, trials bikes do also have seats. Just very smalls ones made primarily so you don't get sucked in by your back tire if you go to far down.

sorry for being a dick, but you're not allowed to be wrong on the internet.

for those wondering about shock absorbing they have very thick tires that are under inflated which takes a bit of the initial shock out. the force is taken out by landing on your back tire, using your back muscles to slow the bike as it rotates down. It still hurts.
