Since I came home from Japan last month, I have discussed ninpo on the internet. Apparently, someone who actually trained with Sensei in Japan for a long time is not someone the internet forums wants to hear from, especially if what you have to say contradicts the popularly held beliefs of the many thousands of people who do not/have not trained in Japan.
The thing is, I have no intention of ever opening a dojo or teaching or sharing the teachings in any way.
I did not go to Japan for 6 years in order to learn things I could sell to other people back here in America. I went there to be changed and I was changed and now I am home.
Discussing it on the internet seems to cause a lot of problems, however.
I wanted to talk about the passion of my life, but now it seems as though that is just not possible.
I needed something to dicuss, something I enjoyed right now. This has been the worst Christmas of my life with my wife and child taken from me.
Now I can't even talk about ninpo.
What the hell kind of situation is this?
I guess I could start drinking, but I don't really like booze.

Danny,

sorry to hear about the family situation. i can relate as i had all as well as my 4 children taken from me several years ago. it is a very helpless feeling and not one to wish upon your worst enemy. since then i have rebuilt after the divorce and have been able to move near my children again and see them daily. i lost an entire year though.
good to hear that your wisdom is not for sale in regards to your refining fire of study. you seem from your posts to be others focused as opposed to most of society. i would urge you to lose yourself in the service of your fellow man.

I wouldn't worry about nerdjas, Danny. The Internet is rife with loudmouth twerps who only become more obnoxious by the anonymity it provides. That's not to say oafish morons don't exist in real life as well, of course, but it's easier to pick out a liar in a face-to-face. It's an uphill battle when trying to argue online with an "expert" on something other than sucking down Bawls between Killimanjaros.

Sorry to hear about your family troubles as well. I hope you're able to work things out in that regard.

Danny,
This website attracts all kinds of people from all kinds of lifestyles. Just the title "Bladeforums" is going to attract all kinds of fruit cakes.

I had a friend who worked at an REI outdoor store in Dallas growing up. He said that you knew when a group of Boyscouts were there because they would ask 2 questions.
1. What is the biggest knife you carry?
2. What chemical compound can I buy that burns down the most forest acherage in the shortest span of time?

I find this story applicable to this website. Mall Ninjas are abound.

BTW, you got mail.

I don't see a way to send PMs, or I'd send one too. Sounds like we need a Dallas meeting at the range or something.

Don't let them get you down, so easy to be an asshat online.
Edit: try this link, thought better of an image with profanity :cool:E-Thug

ok, try it again. by the way, it wasnt on bladeforums and it doesnt really matter where.
the folks in japan dont really want me telling all on the internet and what i can tell the people on the forums dont believe and call me a liar.
Nobody in my family is really interested all that much, so the internet is filling the void right now.

As Registered Users, you cannot send or receive Private Messages through Bladeforums.
You can activate your email addresses to be accessed through your profile, though.

Go to User CP, down the left to Edit Options, and check Receive Email from Other Members.
When someone goes to your profile, they will only see a link to send you an email,
but will not actually see your email address unless you reply to them.

Danny: I have just started doing ninjutsu with a friend of mine who also went to Japan to learn ninjutsu. I would be very interested in finding out your thoughts, although I will admit that I don't know if ninpo is like ninjutsu.

Perhaps we need to put together a little tiny lunch khonvention with those who can attend for the afternoon.

Like a gunshow and the ability to look and oogle at other peoples goodies. Then go out to lunch and talk ninja.:D

DIJ: You did it, you know what it is all about.

. Internet warriors will fight and badmouth everything, and I mean everything. Have you checked out the practical tactical forum here? If its not their idea of what it should be, its junk.

Did you end up being on the Human Weapon show? I saw that they aired the show on ninjutsu but didn't see it.

Hey Danny, I hope you know that you are welcome to talk about it here at the Cantina. Booze isn't the answer, talking is. And we are here. :) I studied Martial arts back in Cali when I was 9 and 10. Don't remember much now, kind of wish I did. But I'm sure there are others that would be willing to discus is with you. All I could add to a conversation is um.. ? . lol. Now target shooting, knives and camping I know. God bless!!

Well, you can see me on the show during the shuriken segment. I was told to be at the wrong location (alogn with several others) for the challenge. We all missed a day of work to be on the show and the crew told us to go to the wrong place.
As much as I love you guys here, I do wish we could get together and talk shop. The internet has become a place where I can't really discuss anything too deeply and I want to do that so much it hurts.
I am up for any kind of get together..
Market Hall!? I havent been there in years! I am going, I will be there..

Hey Danny, I hope you feel better. If you want to discuss Ninjitsu, perhaps Sparks would be willing to open up a sub-forum under training for you to moderate. We already have a special subforum for Filipino combat, so why not?

Unfortunately, Ninjitsu is one of those subjects which caught Hollywoods attention after the Shogun mini-series was aired followed by Lustbader's bestseller Ninja in 1981. As a result, there is alot of laughable myth and exaggeration out there that you have to oversome to discuss the subject. Keep at it.

I started Bunjinkan last summer and I really like it. Especially when we were training outside on the "Plaines d'Abraham".

I think I have good teachers so it helps. Also what I learned helped me a lot in other martial arts such as Kali, Muay Thai and even grappling.

Worth to try :)

Danny, I am fascinated by the life that you have led, the training that you have received, and earnestly saddened by the hand life has dealt you.

If you ever want to start a thread here in the Cantina, feel free. I know that many of the regulars would really cherish some of the teachings that you have learned. I know that I have joked around with the whole "ninjas are mammals and totally flip out" thing, but you have my word that a serious thread here in the Cantina would be treated with respect. People can come here and differ with you. However, any person that has spent 6 years in deep training in a foreign land is a voice that others should listen to if they wish to learn something. The Cantina is self regulating. Those of that feel that we could get something from the thread won't let those that want stir up trouble get away with much.

Think it over:)

I know what you mean about martial arts discussion on the internet. I have trained in fighting arts since I was 6, With 41 years of experience, after the 300th 14 year old tells you emphatically what will and will not "work" (he knows, he read about it all on the internet, back when he was just a kid), it is easy to get disgusted.
As for the personal problems, one old cliche says it best "It doesn't matter how many times you get knocked down. What's important is how many times you get back up."

I would welcome any information on Japanese Ninpo training, it is an area in which I have little expertise. Heck, I'd share "times I got knocked down" stories, but who has the time to listen to me rattle off a thousand stories?

The Cantina is a safe haven for serious discusssion, Danny.

If you have any doubts about that, look in on the discussion in Wilderness & Survival Skills called Pit Bull mauling and killing in California . This was a topic designed for trolling, but there has been none. I have been on top of it since post # 12, where I set the rules.

If you want to be sure your interests are treated with respect, this is the place to bring them. As Steely Gunz said, "you have my word that a serious thread here in the Cantina would be treated with respect." That goes for me, too. This is too good an opportunity for the rest of us to allow childishness. Fun, maybe, but no trolling. :)

I never understood how a man could become like Ebeneezer Scrooge. Now I do.
Lord, he is a saint compared to the feelings I have had these last few months.
