Photography is a big passion of mine, so I thought I'd share some recent shots I've taken.

In the last week of October, my wife and I took a small vacation and visited my home state (NE) and S. Dakota. I had long wanted my wife to see more of the midwest and words simply don't aptly describe the beauty.

Below is the ranch house where I first lived. Nobody has lived there in roughly 45 years. I always visit the place when I go back to visit my family; it still seems like "home" after all these years.

The view (below) from the front "yard."

The following is a shot from a bluff overlooking the river. We used to fish and swim this river as kids.

The following shot is from the Badlands in S. Dakota

This young Coyote was busy eating bugs on the road running through the Badlands National Park

Another shot from the Badlands. I'm thinking about entering this shot in a photo contest. I sometimes enter photo contests and have even been lucky enough to win a few of them.

Mount Rushmore at Night. Though I'd been to Mt. Rushmore several times previously, I had not known it was lit up at night. My wife was really impressed by the view at night.

It was snowing/sleeting the next morning, and this is a shot of Mt. Rushmore during that spell.

A side shot of Mt. Rushmore. It was still snowing/sleeting at this time.

Crazy Horse Monument. It was no longer snowing/sleeting here, but it was still cold and misty.

A closer look at Mt. Rushmore. I did this shot in B&W because I thought it helped "tell the story" of this shot.

This last shot of Mt. Rushmore was taken on our way back to NE. It was a rather quick shot and I was surprised that it turned out as well as it did.

These last few shots are all a lot closer to home (where I live now). They were all taken from my friend's property on the Delaware River.

I love sunset shots: the golden glow is simply mesmerizing in my opinion. In the distance, you can see a small boat fishing just outside the channel.

In the next shot you can see the same small boat (fishing) as a large ship heads out to Sea.

In this last shot, you are looking at Delaware. Due to a very old law, Delaware (at this point) actually extends all the way to the shore on the New Jersey side. One set of lights is a refinery and you can see 3 bridges in this photo - the old Canal bridge, the old Route 9 bridge (very faint) and the much newer Twin Span Bridge on Route 1. There is also a ship that is heading out to sea.

I wish I could post this shot in a much larger size. It really "pops" in a larger size.

I hope you enjoyed my photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. Thanks for looking.

Wow Buddy, now that is some fine shooting right there! I wish I could hold my hands that steady now days! Those are really beautiful shots! Those are frameable photos there Bud! You should have larger prints made and sell those! I'd love to be able to buy that Ranch House and Ranch where you lived! That is one fine looking place to me! Thanks for sharing those photos with us! Great work!

great shots, my wife ad i went through the badlands on or honey moo, among other places. You capture it very well, beautiful. never been to mount Rushmore but i did see a documentary on that crazy horse monument. Your pictures make me want to pick up and go right now.

Great shots all. Thanks for sharing them.
I visited Mt.Rushmore & the Crazy Horse Monument in 78.
Seeing your pic lets me see how far they've gotten on the Crazy Horse Monument.
It was just being roughed out then. Now at least they have his face done.
Mountain carving sure takes a long time.

Great shots. I've travelled around this country for many years now and love those sights. You captured them very well indeed.

Great photos Mike. The one you are considering entering in a contest is particularly nice. I like the way the ribbon of road appears to be suspended among the layers of rock. Very dimensional and nicely composed!

Hello Tahts,

I just thought I'd let you know that your photos pushed me over the edge for planning a Spring trip. We are going to head out to hike up Harney Peak (SD's highpoint), climb Devil's Tower and visit all the standard touristo spots. Thanks for the photos, and if you can recommend any lesser known points of interest please let me know!

Hi Jeff,

I've no doubt that you will have a fantastic time. I can't think of anything off the beaten path (right now anyway) in South Dakota. There is a cool place on the Nebraska border. I think it is Toadstool Park (or something like that). It's been years since I was there. Last time I went there, they still had an old sod house standing. If you're near, it might be worth your time checking it out.

If you do swing down into Nebraska, you might want to canoe the Niobrara river. The scenery is simply beautiful and I'd guess that they'll be renting canoes in the spring.

If I think of more, I'll be sure to post them here.

Thanks Tahts! This trip will probably be spent mostly in S/W SD and N/E WY due to time limitations, but we'll keep the NE points of interest on the list for the next trip.

Jeff
