Thought you'd like to see these little guys - a family of Tawny Frogmouths seem to have moved in. Beautiful birds...

Wow, they do kinda resemble feathered frogs, don't they? Cool pix, Rob! Thanks for sharing!

Sweet, Bacon birds... Or does this mean they are considered HOGS?

Many Australians refer to the Tawny Frogmouth by the colloquial names of "Mopoke" or "Morepork". "From Wikipedia"

Fascinating species of bird! They were part of a special I watched a few years ago and yes, they do blend into a gum tree seamlessly. :)

I’ve often stumbled across this exact thing. You hear the sound of chopping in the bush and go to investigate and see this. No apparent action or work going on; they are just sitting there completely still, glaring at you in awkward and uncomfortable silence. Once you feel sufficiently embarrassed, you wander off, and then the sound of chopping resumes. I’ve never worked out what they were doing or how they were doing it.

:eek:They do look like they're related to reptiles. Fascinating birds. Great pics Rob:thumbup:

Man! You guys are like your own planet down there.

Awesome creatures galore.

Thanks for sharing!

Awesome little birds and a great photo. They really have the "ugly/beautiful" thing going. I always feel privileged seeing something like this.

Wow they're awesome looking they sure look like they have plenty of character. Thanks for sharing.

Cool Photos guys....Nature has certainly given them the ability to blend into the habitat...

Here's a pic before I got closer. Sorry for the blurriness. It was very low light and I had the long lens on. Hard to hold still even with the stabiliser turn on. As I got closer they all extended their necks to look like hunks of wood.
