No Schrade material here but I just got back from a three day trip around the "Los Tuxtlas" area in Veracruz, Mexico, and thought I could share a few pictures.

This is a tropical forest area close to the gulf of Mexico in the south center part of the state of Veracruz, famous for cigars, Olmeca culture and mystical/magical/witchcraft traditions, not far from some famous coffee growing areas. We stayed at Catemaco, a town with population about 45,000 on the side of a lake and surrounded by jungle. We were told that Mel Gibson was somewhere around filming but we never saw him, we did get a peek into some rooms in the hotel where they had filming equipment, computers, etc., some of the film technicians were staying at the same hotel.

First picture: We haven't had any sock pics in a while so I thought this would be appropriate (new members may need an explanation), that's me relaxing in the balcony of our hotel room.

Second picture: Birds on a tree growing out of the lake.

Third picture: There's a protected section where they keep crocodiles, behind fences short enough so that you can stretch over and photograph them, We were told that when one is found they bring it here and they only have five, so I guess there aren't that many around.

Fourth picture: A nice water fall, which being close to town is full of tourists and vendors, I tried to find angles avoiding people, shops, etc.

Boy, Don Luis, that's beautiful country. In all my travels in Mexico, I only made Vera Cruz proper and I didn't get to see much of the surrounding area. I did get a chance to wander afield around Morelia, Mich. and that was really beautiful also, but quite different topography. Thanks for the pictures.

Wow I really enjoyed the pictures. They make me feel a lot better than the one below taken today of my dog enjoying the sun on our back deck.

Laughing - Larry, here it's around 50F and the snow we had (only about 3-4 inches) is melting!!!

I have never been to Morelia, though I have visited nearby Patzcuaro.

Dog taking the sun on the deck, now that's a cool picture.

These days in los Tuxtlas lows at night are in the high 60's, highs during the day in the low 80's, in the second day of our trip (December 8, my wedding anniversary) it rained all day as is common over there, but you don't see many umbrellas and raincoats, it is refreshing to walk under the rain.

Looks like you were enjoying yourself, Jefe. :)

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Great Don Luis! Just what I needed to see; cold at 20 degrees this morning, a couple more inches of snow. You know how to live, my man, you know how to live...

Yes it is pretty nice in Los Tuxtlas, probably a good place for a vacation home or retirement, you'd be surprised how inexpensive life is over there, but now I'm back in the big city, weather is fine here too.

This pic is from friday afternoon, my wife and I in front of the Eyipantla falls.
