Look at the top of the Becker forum. We have a running Off Topic thread. No need to start a new one.
 
My apologies. Our last snark threader forgot to include the Prefix or phrase "off topic." I just made that correction.
All the Beckerheads worth their Becker cards check in there regularly to see what tradewater is up to.
 
I'm a bit slow LOL.... When I click on start (new thread) I then click prefix, and select (off topic)? Can I then name the thread whatever I choose, within reason of course?

We discourage a lot of truly off-topic posts. Moose posted something to this effect a while back.
That is why we have the running off-topic thread (aka the "snark" thread) at the top of the forum thread listings.
Honestly, if you think you need the "off topic" prefix, you're probably better off posting in the already extant thread.

That said, Becker has a pretty wide latitude since Ethan's interests and enterprises extend into all sorts of outdoor arenas (knives, packs, bushcraft, camping, hiking, climbing, etc.) as well as culinary arenas.
We don't want to curtail good material in the forum. We just don't need a bunch of different, wide-ranging chat threads going.

This didn't come off the way I wanted.
What I mean is that we don't need a bunch of winding chat threads without any focus.
Partly, this directive is so that folks can find relevant content with searches.
If every other thread is just random chat, it becomes more difficult to build a good, searchable archive.
Make any better sense?

what he means to say is "if you just wanna be witty, blow off steam, or just drop a nibblet of coolness on us (like a link), or share a quick moment", a bit of support, or to be snarky... that's the thread for it. keep it pretty clean, no boobs or hobos, ... that's for Pirates...

the thread with the word "snark" in it, always stickied, is really the place to go... really!

starting a new thread is really for when you have something (esp) very Becker specific, that you want to have a life of its own, with a GOOD Subject Title ;> be specific, be clear, if someone can't tell what your Subject is ... you did it wrong! ((not : dude, which knife should i buy but which BECKER knife, BK4 or BK8 should i buy?)... you get what i mean :D that's a GENERAL MESSAGE FOR ALL YOU DUDES and DUDETTES AND ARK :D

BF and us mods encourage you to do the best thing as possible :)

Keeping chat type topis in the Snark thread is a must.

BFC gives us a wide latitude with our topics, based on the wide latitude of Ethan's endeavors. If we abuse the ability to add Off Topic to threads, then our ability to maintain our current level of discussions, will get curtailed.

If there is a single specific issue, say, sick family, major issues IRL, or something you want our forum to.specifically address, the thats what the Off Topic header is for. Not to just throw in when you want to chat, thats what the chat thread is for.
