Offensive ad

Recently I sent an email to Blade Mag and made a phone call to Buck Knives regarding an ad on page 23 on the August issue of Blade.
I find the ad offensive and below the type of advertising Buck needs.
I think knife ownership could be in serious trouble soon, alot of cities are moving to create laws that are ridiculous but are laws nevertheless.
Ads, like the one Buck has in Blade and K.I. and apparently other places do not promote a good image of knives and knife owners.
I am hoping Buck will redesign the ad and be more careful in the future, hopefully it ain't all about bucks. Pun intended.

This was already discussed in great endless detail here about a month or so ago. My personal advice is to; lighten up, most see the humor in the ad. Obviously Buck thought about it BEFORE they sent it out. Use the search and go back and read all the prior stuff.

Actually as a knife user I see the humour. It is not me I am thinking of. Did you see the article in the August issue of Blade about the 2.5 inch blade law in some town in Ohio? Did you see the story of the honor student in Florida who was not allowed to graduate because she had a kitchen knife in her car onm the school grounds? There are people out there who want to shut you and me down from carrying a knife. They don't need to see ads like that. Beleive me, when they are trying to introduce legislature to have all knives with a blade length over 2 inches liscensed they will use ads like that in their arguments for persuasion.

Glad to here that there has been some concern about that ad from others.

It must be my New York sense of humor. I laughed my...... head off when I read the add in the new August issue of Blade.

You make Bob build the lean-to. Hahahahahahaha

Gotta go. I think I just peed my knickers again!!!!

Ghostdog, you ever wonder how many non-knife nuts read knife magazines? I bet there are very few. Get the point?

Ghostdog,
Your point is well taken. I know that Buck is VERY involved, via Cj Buck and ATKI, with fighting "bad" knife laws. If Buck thought, for a moment, that this could be a bad thing for knife users, they would probably change the ads. I do believe Jake's last point is where Buck is coming from on this issue.
Your concern is comforting though, we need as many involved knife users as we can get to protect common sense.
My 2 cents.

What's a "good" knife law? We have laws against murder, battery, and assault already. We don't need any **** knife laws. They only bite you in the *** if you are a manufacturer anyway, just like the "good" ( :barf: ) gun laws do gun manfacturers.

My opinion hasn't changed since the last discussion:
ROFLMAO!

If some politician wants to campaign against knives based on this ad, that would be nearly as funny as the ad itself.

Buck is NOT advocating that anyone threaten anyone else with a knife. Anyone who takes this ad seriously is in need of some heavy-duty counseling.

Jus my $0.02.

Joe, thanks for the thoughtful reply, I think Buck is missing the point on this one, but whatever...I put my 2 cents worth in.

WinDancer, you remind me of a lot of people up here in Canada when the proposed gun laws were first yakked about. I and other nuts like me encouraged friends, relatives, anyone we could corner, to write or phone their political reps and get the nonsense stopped before it started. We were told we were kooks, and paranoid, and out to lunch and other labels designed to put us down. Some people even thought we needed our heads examined, which we probably did, cement walls are hard on heads.

That was back in the 70's. Our gun laws are now a model for the rest of the world to follow.

I have to agree with ghostdog. Yes I find the add humorus but Mr Joe politician sees it as fuel for his knife laws. Remember the Black Talon rounds that gun control groups cried and whined about? Winchesters ads in gun magazines were used to gather the fuel they needed to attempt the ban on hollowpoint ammo. Yes it sucks! :barf:
