I have a friend offering to trade me a buck 191 zipper with a buckcote finish.

The knife he wants from me is one I was trying to sell, so he offered this as partial trade. I told him I would just end up selling it, but he doesn't care.

I'm not very familiar with this model, so I have two concerns. I want to make sure I'm not giving him the short end of the stick by taking a knife that's more sought after than either of us realizes. I also want to make sure that I'm not getting stuck with a knife I wouldn't be able to sell.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this model?

buckcote is cool stuff. few posts in the past with details on it, if youre not familiar with it and it's intended use? I'm not a big fan of the zipper models but I dont hunt or clean game anymore. all buckcotes are kinda rare anymore. think ran from mid 90s to maybe early 2000s. im guessing that range, but it's close enough without lookin it up.

If I recall right, they have a single bevel edge. The coating was to reinforce the back side of the blade.
The single edge was a turn off to some people. I have a mini buck and a 450 Protege and used both until something new and shiny came along 😁

I used to collect the Buckcote and Ionfusion models back in the day. I think they are pretty cool. They are beveled on one side only, and the coating on the back side is what does the cutting. They are sharp as hell if sharpened correctly.

Issue I always had is the edge is more fragile than a typical edge. I rolled an edge on more than one. I still have a few and a 110 I use.

I don't recall seeing many of the zipper models. They were mainly 110's 119's proteges 525's and 692 vanguard models. With the sticker on the blade I would guess $100-150. If it has the box maybe $200-250 for the right collector?

Sweet knife!!

IMHO, its a fair knife, but a bit gimmicky. I use/collect 11 different Buck models, but personally am not interested in these.
