Well it just gets better.
Tried to reinstall office2007 on wifey's machine.
Tells me can not find previous software. Uninstalled then reinstalled 2003 sucessfully. When I try to install 2007 I get the error message.
Any ideas?
Thanks

What operating system are you using?

A few questions before I can figure this out...

1. Have you had any problems with XP before you upgraded to MSO 2007?

2. Have you had any problems with MSO 2003?

3. Are you Auto-running the CD when you put it the drive or are you opening the files and running Setup.exe?

I haven't run into issues like this with XP and MSO 2007 before. Not saying it's not possible but something else is going on that needs to be figured out first.

Did you uninstall MSO 2003 before you installed 2007? Or was this an upgrade?

Ken,
No
No
Yes

I think I caught a virus.
Malwarebytes was running along with firewalls.
Now it is my wife's machine and she works online for a few websites.
It started when she could not empty her mail box in outlook.
I reinstalled Office 2007 and it started to work and I was able to empty stuff out. I also had a problem uninstalling Yahoo messenger. I did get rid of that.
When I went to do a deep scan with Malware it wouldn't run.
Now Spybot is not working. All the problems seem to be around installs.
Usually can't find a certain DLL.

OK, now that I have a better handle on your issue let's try to clean out the PC.

Uninstall issues are a pain in the tail end. Revo will uninstall the program of choice and then clear out the registry.

Revo Uninstaller

CCleaner will only clean out the registry and find and fix registry errors which may be the case in the matter you are having. If you have DLL issue it will attempt to repair them as well.

CCleaner

Run CCleaner first. Then run Revo. When running Revo you may want to uninstall MSO 2003. I have a feeling that a registry issue with MSO 2003 is preventing MSO 2007 from installing properly.

Ken,
I think I do need Office 2003 because the 2007 is just an upgrade.
Just ran CC and now I'm going out to pick up Revo.
I hope it installs.

Yes, forgot that you mentioned that.

You can directly download Revo from the link I provided. Download the free version.

Ran CC and ran Revo. Now I am running Malware deep scan. I just want to get 2007 up and running for her.
I hope all this works.
After all this should I uninstall both 03 and 07 then reinstall. Is there a proper sequence for all?

Seeing as you have an upgrade version of MSO 2007 you should uninstall both and start with MSO 2003 and let it update and then install MSO 2007.

I don't know what other problems that you are having, but you should be able to install 2007 without installing 2003 on an upgrade. You should be able to allow the 2007 version to recognize the 2003 disc. I installed it with just letting it "see" the disc.

When you upgraded to 2007, it probably removed 2003:

If I were you, I would run the clean up utility: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 then remove 2007 that you tried to install http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971179/ and then do the upgrade and allow it to recognize 2003 disc

Did all that. When I went to install 2007 asked for 03. Popped it into drive and 07 could not see it. So I installed 03. Get the OK that it is installed. When I tried to open outlook I got Cannot start MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version. This is getting tiresome. Malware ran and only found two items and removed them. Thanks for more info. Could this be related to Liveonecare?

Now we're getting somewhere! The ol' "mapi32.dll" error. This is a common problem for Outlook and indicates a corrupted registry file. I'll see if I can locate the fix for ya".

Found it!

If you receive a message that you are using the wrong version of mapi32.dll or that the file is corrupted, you might have installed other messaging software after you installed Microsoft Outlook.

When you see this type of message, you can fix it by running a program in the Microsoft Windows System folder.

To run the program to fix this problem, in C:\winnt\system32 or C:\windows\system32, double-click Fixmapi.exe.

Well found fixmapi and did the double tap and zilch.
Some of the 03 apps open like excel and word no 03 outlook. 07 will not work due to mapi. It won't install and in the add/remove it says it's there.

Thanks everybody. I fixed it. Changed MAPI32.DLL to MAPI32.old.
03 is working.
