Anybody got any opinions on the best (sheeple friendly/useful) blade shape for "around the office".

I'm looking at a slippie for the office and am looking for takes on what blade(s) it should contain.

Thanx!

Slippie is a good start, I would say a trapper model of some sort. Are you looking for a custom or a production?

If you sit at a desk like me there isn't a much better sheeple friendly knife than the SAK Manager. Give it a look, everything you could need in an office setting.

good idea realstagman. i have a Vic Manager and used it at my office without funny looks (back in school now). small SAKs are very acceptable

If you want a slipjoint, I would go for the SAK.

If you change your mind, make a little search. There were 2 threads recently about sheeple-friendly EDC. One about folders, another about fixed blades.

A Victorinox Executive is pretty handy with multiple blades, decent sized scissors, a good nail file, and the much maligned orange peeler blade that actually works really well for cutting tape on packages without looking like a 'real' blade.

My small SAK favorites are Victo Ambassador (basically a big Classic), Alox Cadet, Alox Bantam, Waiter and Wenger Highlander.

Any small traditional slipjoint with stag or jigged bone or mother of pearl should go over pretty well. One blade may be all you need, but a doctor's knife will give you a larger blade for cutting up food and a pen blade for opening packages or popping out staples.

If you don't mind the more modern appearance, I agree with the small Swiss Army Knife. It provides so many options, it's hard for me to imagine doing without one.

For the office I would go with a SAK, traditional pattern slipjoint, or a small gentleman's folder.

Right Mojo, that or a 13"+ fixed blade, preferably coated black :D

A.G. Russell might be a good place to look. He carries many nice sheeple-friendly options, in all price ranges.

Of course, I really don't think you can go wrong with a SAK either.

Another option if you feel the pull of the SAK is the joint SAK and Swiss Pen collaboration of a SAK pen! My version has a little blade, a press light, and a "space pen"

I'd go with a stockman. The sheepfoot blade is as sheeple friendly as it gets, no point at all and it's really handy.

I know where you are coming from on needing a knife for an office environment. My real job, unfortunately, is not farming....I'm only a "plowboy" on the weekend. In the office I carry a Victorinox Executive in the right front pocket and it is the knife used nearly 100% of the time. However, in the other front pocket (at least right now as this does change from time-to-time) is a small Sebenza. I carry the second knife because I like to have a more substantial knife than the Executive if I ever need to do more serious cutting.

Other options include:

Spyderco Crickett
Spyderco Dragonfly (SS version)
Blade-Tech Mouse II

All of the above are rather friendly looking knives. Best of luck on finding the one that is best for you.

The Chris Reeves Mnandi may have been mentioned already. It's just the right size for office EDC and it's classy appearance makes it non threatening. You can clip it in your shirt pocket and unless you look closely it could be a pen.

The downside is they aren't cheap.

Thanks everyone. Got a SAK. Got a Blink (edgy).

Probably should have been clearer and stated that I was looking for what Esav suggested, a nice traditional jigged bone slipjoint (Case, maybe?)

I guess I was wondering if anyone had a take on what pattern they may have found most useful around the office. As Franciscomv suggested, I was thinking stockman.

But, Case has a nice Mini Copperhead with Wharncliff and pen blades. And for someodd reason, Wharncliffs appeal to me more than Sheepsfoots.

I guess my real problem is that I shouldn't have requested that Case catlog.

And now am thinking of getting two slipjoints.

Foolishly, came here hoping you people could help me choose one or the other, not both. I should know better!:D

I mostly carry a traditional slippie. I often will have it open on my desk for opening packages etc. I also have a thin 2 blade SAK that is perfect for suitwear. It isn't too bulky.

On Fridays', jeans, I do carry an AG Russell Featherlite, utility blade with a lanyard polking out of the top of my pocket for easy retrieval.

I'll confirm the stockman design. I carried a small Buck stockman for years (Cadet model). I found that I could sharpen the three blades to different levels to be used for different purposes. I still have it and still EDC it on occasion. No one is ever shocked or offended when I use it.

If I were to buy another, it would be a Queen with D2 blades. It's on my want list.

I am a SAK-aholic but i also like Stockmans and other slipjoints. However for use in a sheeple environment a SAK is friendlier because it is perceived more as a generic tool because of its multiple (non cutting) functions. A Stockman is a great knife but is pure and simply a "knife" designed for cutting.
The tool versus knife aspects makes the SAK more sheeple friendly. Most people, even sheeple see the need for tools. The more they think of it as a tool , the more acclimatised to it they will become. And the fact that is also has a sharp blade (or two) on it may also convince them that "yes a cutting blade (knife) is a useful tool as well".
