Officers shot and killed...

I live in the St. Louis area and watched it unfold on the news. And I do NOT want to sound like a Monday-Morning QB but I am so glad that we learned a bit about weapon retention at the Alumni Shoot some months ago.

God Bless the officers for doing what they do to protect our community. Many people do NOT appreciate what they do or the fact that they may not make it home after work (just like our military personal)

I just wanted to mention how IMPORTANT it is iof you carry a weapon to defend your life or the lives of others to TRAIN as hard as you can. And many law enforcement agencies do not emphasize the importance of QUALITY of off-duty rigs as well as back-up weapons and weapons retention.

Again I am not here to judge what these officers did, but it is a reminder to all that carry how QUICK something can turn to ****!(as Yeager stated on the phone to me)

There is also a good atricle in the latest SWAT on weapon retention as well...

Thank you James and Tracy as well as everyone at Lightfighter for giving us the opportunity to confront various issues regarding our personal saftey.

My prayers are with the families of the officers. And to the SOB suspect that was killed...I hope you rot in hell...

I know this is not about knives but Here in lies the issue...many people who carry a weapon should also think about a back-up...(for their weak hand)

I like to carry my Mean Street with a SOB for my weak hand...

My bro-in-law is a police officer in my little part of San Antonio, its my worst fear that he will end up at the wrong end of a gun barrel. His training is intense and thorough, AND to top it off he is wanting SWAT!!! Sheesh! Darn adrenalin(sic) junkie! The worries are always there but I cannot dwell on it, you just have to hope for the best and know that he has chosen to be in harms way because he feels a need to help people. Theres risk in every profession, in fact law enforcement isnt that high in the 20 most dangerous jobs!! Its a small concession(sic) but worth it.

In short, all law enforcement and military accept that they could be killed in the line of duty. For that I cannot thank them enough, it takes a special person to put themselves in front of a bullet meant for someone they have never met and dont know of Adam.

whew!:D

Terrible Tragedy. Hindsight is also 20/20. I agree that some form of backup is always necessary, be it knife or gun. the ackup must be something easily accesible, not something you have to spend time reaching for lik at your ankle. Neck knives and pocket knives are best or belted fixed blades are good to. I can pull a knife out faster than I can a gun because the grip position is not as important.

Defensive tactics is always important.

But street awareness is the most important thing. knowing or being able to spot possible trouble will usually keep you out of it.

Still a tragedy.

Very sad and very tragic. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and families of the officers involved.
