I`m setting the date for the Semi Annual JK Knives Gathering for May 14th. I hope that you guys can make it that day, The Boss has a new recipe for us to try (I`ve tried it, it`s good!).

Here are some ideas for the day.

1) The $20 Survival Kit Contest (save your receipts!)
2) Swap Meet

Any more ideas are certainly welcome. Does anyone have contact info for Mat (ms3902)? I`m still open for an earlier gathering somewhere if we can nail down the details.

(my kit is ready)

What's the possibilty of having this gathering further down state?

Hey as far as the swap meet at your place for the get together, maybe this is dumb but could we start a thread with some wants and interests. I know the obvious knives, but if there is specific gear or other stuff people are looking for maybe then we could be better prepared, then I wont have to fill my whole truck up with my junk, LOL! Kinda like a pre swap- Joel

Hi Stomper -

I plan on being there!

best regards -

I'm really way up in the air for now as to whether I will be able to come or not but, I sure am going to try. It just depends on how well I repair and whether I can talk the old woman into driving me down for a few hours! I'm holding my fingers crossed!

I just thought that I'd bring this back to the surface to get some ideas flowing. Do we have a location in mind? I think we need a wooded area with little or no traffic to set up our shelters in a realistic survival environment. Fire is a must and overnight camping to test our kits would be a big plus! What do you guys think?

I have no idea for a secluded, wooded area, where they have overnight camping. All of the camping areas I know are anything but secluded, with little traffic. Mr. Sogetsu lives out in a relatively rural area, maybe he knows someplace. He is coming over on Monday, I`ll ask him about it.

I`ve been doing a Google search for campgrounds while the blades are heat treating. I thought maybe Buffalo Rock, but the site says camping is now closed. Most of the parks don`t allow you to pick up wood, or bring your own. It must be purchased at the park. None of them allow reserving spots, all are on a first come basis. I want to look into Illini Park in Marseilles, I`ve driven through it, not really secluded, but none of them are. No camping at Mathieson near Starved Rock.

How about down mqqn's way? Any spots by you?

Maybe over the border in Indiana or southern Michigan?

Are there any areas of state land where we can just park at a trailhead and wander into the woods? We have areas like that in MI. They're not designated as camping areas and have no ammenities, but camping is legal.

Not that I`m aware of, Illinois pretty much sucks. I`m going to ask Steve on Monday. We were out in his area awhile ago, and passed a nice looking park with a river next to it, can`t remember the name, it was out in the boonies. Here are a couple areas to look at.

So, Saturday May 14th is the definite date? I see we are still looking for a location, correct? Any luck with a decision or narrowed selection?

I'll keep an eye here for details. I will have to put in for a day off & I may have a friend that wants to come on out and socialize with us all. As far as the contest is concerned, I haven't been out to any stores looking. With as hectic my schedule's been... we'll see if it slows down enough tofr me to make it out and see what I can find... I know John's gotta have an A1 kit thrown together.

I think the 14th is the date, not too many have posted if that works or not. As for the location, I`m going to let the others pick one that works for their plans. Actually my kit is not too impressive, I`ve been neglecting working on it due to not being in the competitiion. If gas prices keep going up the whole thing may be cancelled.
