I have been hanging around here for the past month. (Shortly after I bought my first Esee) I have been getting up in the morning reading this board like it's the morning news. So finally I realized this isn't likely to change anytime soon, and I might as well make it all official...

I am a 31 year old happily married father of two, from South Carolina. I would call myself a pasionate student of wilderness survival. I don't claim to be an expert in this field. I have much to learn. I believe it is a crying shame that this seems to be a dying skillset amongst youth today.

About a year ago I first came acrossed Randall's Adventure Training / Knives, not looking for knives but researching wilderness training schools. It was while reading their site I found their knives. Just looking at them I knew I would like to some day have one. Fastfoward several months... My wife and I were on a trip to Gatlinburg,TN for our anniversary. She asked if I would like to stop in at SMKW. Ha, of course I would. I went in with the thought to check on several knifes that I had seen online that you don't typically see in the local gear shop. After I had seen a few, I remembered the RAT knives I had seen online. So I asked this lil ole lady working the counter if she knew if they had any "RAT" Knives. This lil ole lady blew my mind with her response. She said "Well son, they are called ESEE now, and I can do better then show you where they are, I can introduce you to one of the owners" So she led me over to another counter and introduced me to Mike Perrin. I was floored by Mike's enthusiasm and confidence in their product, then he told me about the warranty and that sealed the deal. I had to walk out of there with at least one Esee. So I bought the Esee Izula Kit. We had some confusion at the counter and instantly Mike responded to insure I was a completely happy customer. I instantly knew this was a top knotch company.

That is how I was introduced to Esee

I had a chance to handle the Esee-3 Mil and Esee-4 and I am really itching to get my hands on the 4 as soon as I can. I would take just about every product Esee makes but ya gotta start some where right.

I am impressed with the folks that typicly hang out on this board. It is nice to chat with so many like minded people.

Already I have learned several things about knives, gear, and survival methods, just by reading this board. I know the internet is no replacement for training, so I'll be looking to take the Woodland Survival course just as soon as I can.

I look forward to getting to know everyone. Thanks for listening. Happy Holidays:)

There have been several people just happen to bump in to Mike at SMKW. Pretty cool that you got to do that.

Congrats and welcome to the club.

welcome - and hope your wait for the 4 isn't too long, it's a great blade.

I live pretty close to SMKW Decklin (and I'm new to this forum aswell). I go there often to browse and drool over their selection of blades. It's a great resource for me, because I can handle a knife that I'm interested in. BUT, I have to say, I rarely buy a knife there. Their inventory of blades is huge (as I'm sure you know) which is great, but their prices are always high. I'm getting my first ESEE knife for Christmas (ESEE 6). I was able to save nearly $25 bucks by shopping online as opposed to walking in and purchasing one from SMKW. Kinda sucks for me, cause I would love to spend my money locally. Anyhow, welcome to the forum and Happy Holidays to you too.

Welcome to the forums :)

Just so you know, my first ESEE was the Izula and it is only getting worst from here :D

Once again welcome

Welcome aboard from a former south carolinian. If you like those, try the HEST.

If you haven't read it yet, I posted a review last week on the Wilderness Ops course that contains some pics.

Was Mike sweeping up at SMKW:) ?

Thanks all for the warm welcome....

welcome to the sickness! Im new around here too. been collecting knives for about a year and been hanging out in the bush since i was old enough to walk. yukon terr, baffin island nwt, northern manitoba, bc coast etc. i agree that survival skills are dying with our sitting at home eatin cheezies playing vids getting fat youth. such a shame cause theres great personal reward and satisfaction stepping outside your comfort zone for a while and learning skills that you can carry with you, and teach others, for a lifetime. I have 3 esses so far. a junglas (freakin awesome!) and izula1 and 2. all three are great and im sure to add many others. take it easy. S

Welcome to the forums!!!

I was there that day as well, met with Mike and Jeff. You have entered into a world, that you will never be able to leave:D

ESEE knives are top shelf and a great value. Glad you joined in.

I live about 20 minutes from SMKW, so I'm there quite often. Great place.

I am trying to fix this one kid at a time...speaking of my kids. My daughter who is 11 loves hiking. Last time I was teaching her basic map and compass skills. This time I taught her a few different ways to determine direction without a compass. 4 mile hike in the Blue Ridge mountains. Good times.

Funny thing, she taught me some cool phrases that help to remember identification of different types of pine trees. Never know where you might learn something new.
