I have a fairly odd question that I thought some of you here might be able to answer. What is the official military rescue knife, like the ones that the navy and coast guard rescue swimmers carry? I have a friend who was a navy rescue swimmer, and I asked him, but all the only description he could remember is that it was a cheap fixed blade with the tip broken off. Does anyone know if the military issues an official rescue knife to rescue swimmers and the like?
Thanks a lot,

I don't think there is an "official" knive, most professionals choose their own equipment. I do know that the Mission Knives and Tools MPK Ti is a favorite among the military divers and Seal team members. The blade is titanium and very rugged. According to Mission Knives, it "survived continuously under seawater four years without any signs of rust or corrosion." The handle is made from Hytrel, a DuPont product known for its toughness, broad temperature use, and chemical resistance. It is reinforced with the ballistic fiber Kevlar. It is a light weight, non magnetic and, non corrosive knife available in 10 or 12 inch models.

ABS. nailed it. Mission offers shorter blades also. For those applications, I love my Mission knives.
