Reif Project #2
- Blade
- CPM 420V OR Mike Norris 420V core ladder damascus.
- 3 1/4" long from bolster to tip
- 3/4" - 7/8" width
- .100 blade stock when finished
- 600 grit satin finish
- Heat treated by R.J. Martin
- Recurve edge
- Sharpened somewhere near 18 degrees per side. (36 degrees total)
- No thin false edges on the blade spine. Nice and thick all the way down to the tip.
- Gentle thumb dimples on top of the blade, rather than actual thumb eating thumb serrations at the thumb ramp.
- Bolsters
- Mike Norris stainless raindrop damascus
- Heat treated and heat colored (if possible with stainless damascus.)
- Notched / angled to allow for easier thumbstud purchase.
- Handle Scales
- satin finished carbon fiber
- Liners
- .050" Ti. Liners.
- Jeweled, anodized med. / dark blue, and light filework along bottom side back to the handle spacer.
- Handle Spacer
- Devon Thomas stainless spirograph damascus (Blue if possible)
- 3/4 spacer up to the bolsters
- Heat treated and heat colored to match the bolsters.
- Fully fileworked
- Lock, hardware, misc.
- 7 1/2" OAL
- Dual, textured thumbstuds by Darrel Ralph and heat colored gold.
- 1/4" minimum, heat treated stainless steel pivot.
- Polished pivot hole and nylatron washers
- Heat treated stop pin
- Darrel Ralph made Ti. Clip, mirror polished and jeweled.
- Polished Torx screws. T6 or larger.
- Lock should just engage the full liner width of the blade tang so it barely engages, but should have plenty of pressure.
- Nice large, hardened ball bearing detent for smooth action and perfect blade retention.
- Nice arched liner lock bar, rather than flat, so the index finger is comfortable in the open position while being gripped.
- PLEANTY of lock bar surface contact with the blade tang.
- No lanyard hole
What do you think? How does it sound? Should I have gone with Eggerling mosaic damascus bolsters? I don't want to have to worry about corrosion resistance.
...and yes, this will be another "top secret" design.
Doesn't that just sound sooo cool?
