Utah has just become the first American state to officially designate a state gun to go along with the usual state song, state flower, etc., the Browning M1911 Semiautomatic Pistol. John Moses Browning, the gun's chief designer, was from Utah.
 
Can't think of a gun he designed more deserving. Long live the 1911. John Moses was pure genius.
 
IUKE12...agree 100%... although more American lives have probably been saved by M2 Heavy Barreled .50cal MG

He certainly was. I think we should designate the 1911 as the official gun of the U.S.
I'm sure we all know what the chances of that happening are though :(
 
Not just the 1911, one of the most popular handguns in history, but Browning also invented the first lever action shotgun, pump action shotgun, and semi-auto shotgun. The 1919 machine gun is still used around the world, and the M2 is still in use by our military. No single gun designer in history can make such a claim. Without him and his guns the outcome of WWII might have been very different.
