Mick and Duane, so there we were, my wife and I. We were at fancy smancy restraunt and decided to try a good 16 year old Scotch. (The drinking kind):) So we order up this stuff called Lagavulin, and give it a try. My wife takes a sip and she says, this stuff tastes like Striders sheaths smell! :D I too a drink and had to agree. So guys, could this be the official Strider Scotch? :p

Sorry for being boring, but this was just too funny to pass up!

I'll betchya these boys chase their Guinness with ten year-old Laphroaig. It smells like iodine and bandages, but it tastes great.

Laphroaig tastes like it smells, to me. And that's not a good thing! I have a half full bottle that's been in my cubbard for years.
McCallan is the one for me. But then it's all very subjective.

Laphroaig has a bit more peat taste than some folks like. However, I happily take neat when I can. Harrydog, I'll be happy to take your half empty bottle and put it to good use.

Rob,
Send them a bottle and I'm sure Duane will put many hours testing the product thouroughly. He might then declare it an official sponser.

I could really use some Scotch with a Taquila chaser. Night shift can really suck sometimes. Drink one for me.

Ryan,

The way to drink neat like my Scottish girfriend once taught me is to just put a drop of still mineral water (just one Drop in the single malt!). Smell and taste, before and after the water. There is a great difference. That single drop of water opens up the whole aroma of the whisky.

You can also try this on the Strider Whisky.:D

I've been a Lagavulin drinker for alot of years now. It's what God drinks on the weekends. You do have to work up to it though. It is the heaviest flavored of all the Scotches

That's the interesting aspect of single malt scotch...the wide range of tastes and aromas. At one end of the spectrum you have light, slightly sweet ones like Dalwhinnie. At the other end you have heavy, smokey, peaty ones like Laphroaig. And you have everything in between.
If you're a scotch drinker and haven't tried Macallan, you owe it to yourself to do so. The 25 year old stuff is incredibly good, but WAY too expensive. The 18 year old is also very good, but still expensive. I don't buy it often for that reason.

Tried Mac 25 Yrs and love it as you said expensive.
Try also Ardbeg 12 years old will do.
Adradower is another.

A friend from work turned me on to Lagavulin a few years ago. Love it now, but didn't at first. It's a drink for "Sweater Weather"- can't do that one (or Scotch in general) in the spring/summer. Good stuff, but an acquired taste. Also like Oban (a little lighter, but very good) The Macallan 18 is wonderful.
Speaking of Tequilas, there are a bunch of good ones out there (Reposados, Anehos, etc.) for sipping, not for slamming w/salt & lime/lemon. Another variation on the salt/lemon thing (that was popular when I was tending bar in Germany) is sprinkling powdered cinnamon on an orange slice & popping it into your mouth post-shot. I prefer mine without any fruit, but need to leave it alone- it makes me want to play in traffic & climb tall structures...

I had to aquire a taste for the Lagavulin as well. I took one sip, let is burst in my mouth, swollowed, and thought "Taste Aquired, pour more!":D

Me and Tokillya dont get along, I think I am 10 foot tall and bullet proof! Worst ass beating I ever had was when I was drinking Tequila, bikers were involved..............

Try Cardhu and Aberlour has a premium called a'bunadh, it's barrel proof at 120 proof and as smooth as silk.

I cannot drink scotch, the stuff tastes like rotten pistachio nuts!!!!

My Father gave me some scotch out of a couple of hundered dollar bottle. The stuff tasted just like J&B!!!!

Give me moonshine!!!!:p ;)
