I just picked up an Offset with the aluminum handle at a gun show I've been looking for one for a while and I might have paid a little more than I should but what the hell you only live once! Now that I have had a chance to really look closely I see that the spring in the blade, that activates the locking mechanism is ether too short or has been stressed to the point that the locking stud is loose and when to blade is closed the knife rattles when you shake it. It works great, should I send it back to Kershaw? Who am I kidding, this high a dollar knife ought to be right. Also is it true that only 1000 of these types were made? This is a great site and Kershaws are great knives!!

if it operates great, then there is nothing wrong... the stud lock can rattle when closed.. and the srpings could rattle a little when open. If the stud lock fails to keep the blade locked when open, or the springs fail to open the knife, then something is wrong. If you're concerned, though, I'm sure Kershaw will check it out. You didn't say if it was new or used????

It's new,and spotless, but I think has been handled a lot. I understand what you guys are saying and thanks! but I have a Spec Bump and there is not play in the spring at all! I think this one needs help and am sure Kershaw will agree and repair. A good knife should not rattle when you shake it. I'll post when I get the knife back from Kershaw. Thanks for your advise.

you may want to take apart a speedsafe knife sometime... it will help explain a lot. Good luck, I'm sure Kershaw will help

Any $300 knife that rattles has a problem!! For that matter any knife that rattles when opened or closed has a problem.

Now the good news I called Kershaw on Monday and told them the problem, they said "send it back or we'll send you the parts to fix it. I chose to fix it myself. Today I got a package with 4 springs two ball bearings and two of the plastic inserts. I installed the parts and knife is as tight as a Swiss watch with no rattle at all.

My hats off to Kershaw, great products and service that is second to none!!

Due to the nature of the torsion bar, sometimes there is a little rattle when the knife is opened because the tension is released from the torsion bar and it can rattle inside the handle a bit. Not a defect at all.

With mine the problem was the spring that holds the stud that locks the knife open. It allowed the stud to go back and forth at least a 1/16" this was a loud rattle. The torsion bar is more of a clicking sound I could live with that, but noise mine was making had to go!
