I recently finished this Frontier Style knife. It's knife #29 for me, and my best effort to date. So I thought I would have a Pro photograph it for me. Guess who? Well, Jim worked his magic, and I am stoked!

It is 9 5/8" OAL, 4 5/8" blade edge quenched and etched 5160 with etched wrought iron guard and pommel. The handle is stained curly maple, stippeled and silver wire work.

I made the sheath, it's basswood and deer skin lined with beaver tail and fox squirrel rawhide and a piece of polished and scrimmed whitetail antler "Moon Face".

Great knife and the sheath is spectacular, as is the photography. Just curious though, about the name Ogala. Oglala would also fit as it is the name of a Sioux sub tribe of the Lakota. The greater Sioux Nation was made up of the Dakota, Nacota and the Lakota.

Paul, you are correct about the name! My spelling stinks. BTW, I have been studying my copy of your "Basic Pouch Sheaths" DVD

Well I was pleasantly surprised upon unveiling this beauty. It has all the right features for the style.

I need educating: Steve, where did you score the 'wrought iron'. Is all wrought iron antique?

Thanks for the nods. This piece IS special!

Waaaaay coooool! Dig that sheath and handle!! In fact, it is ALL great!!! FANTASTIC package!!!!

Thanks for the kind words! I had fun with this project, and it was a pleasure working with Jim! I would be remiss in not giving a mention to John Cohea for some advice and his "Basic Rawhide Sheath Construction".

Jim, in this case the wrought is antique. About twenty years ago I bought a "Tongue" from an old, old wagon with all kinds of hand forged wrought iron work on it at a auction and used it as a bird house pole. The wood finally rotted and that's about the time I started making knives! Worked out perfect!
