Just over a year ago, I had an opportunity to purchase a fine folder off of eBay. It was an especially nice folder made by the late Bob Ogg--Max Burnett's stepfather. You can see and read all about this story in this thread. I gave Max and his mom Nancy the chance to handle and admire this knife for the asking. In conversation, I learned that the day after it arrived was the date of Nancy & Bob's anniversary.
Hearing how much the family loved this knife, and how few *really* nice one's they had, I chased Max, and especially his mom, a note on the following day. It read in part: "Happy Anniversary--this knife is yours to keep!"
Well the short version of of this was Max and I decided that a 'horse trade' was in order. Max would make me a knife in replacement for this now-heirloom. Sounds good to me. I was in no rush, and Max took care of his business, but eventually we settled in on some idea's. For the most part, I let Max build me a knife with HIS soul forged in it. And according to him, it is one of his faves. Let's take a look now:
It arrived a short while ago, and I waited until I could take some quality pictures of it. This is a knife made to do some work! It could probably chop one of my delicate 'art folders' in two--he he he! It is, I guess, a camp knife in description, but no matter. What's important is the dedication that went into it. Max can fill in the details of it's construction I hope. And I must say his sheath work is outstanding and stylish as well.
I am VERY happy with my knife and how this all worked out. June 18th is Nancy and Bob's anniversary, and I wish her the very best in memories as well. Max, thanks a billion!
