First off, I apologize for the quality of these pictures. I was excited and I had to share. There's much work to be done, so think of these as "before" pictures. This is the Baby Chitlangi by Kumar from the 11/02 DotD.

Neem handle, traditional bolster, lovely fullers, and some great filework all over! In this shot you can see the handle and chakma in more detail, and some of the filework on the buttcap.

Here's some cho-area detail.

And here are the fullers. Boy, do I love fullers. I'm getting an 18" Chitlangi one day, there's no question. This knife is beautiful, stunning, curvy, and tough. The neem handle smells nice too. I almost don't want to finish it because then it won't smell anymore.

So now I'm going to go apply the files and smooth out the pointy buttcap, give the blade a nice satin finish, and tomorrow I'll start finishing the handle. Unless neem isn't meant to be finished, which I wonder about since it wasn't finished when it arrived. The 12" Siru has a new competitor for that spot on my belt! They'll have to share.

So later you'll all get better pictures after I'm done "making the khukri mine." Thanks for looking!

Tycho.............you echo my thoughts !

I luv the fullers too..........! And I shall get an 18 inch Chit later.........

And I just ordered from Yangdu a 12" Chit with neem !

:D

That's some good chit right there Tycho. ;)

I'm working with some neem right now. It seems to have less chatoyance than chandan (my favorite) but more than satisal. Looking at the handle on my FF, there are areas where the black specks turn nearly spherical; it reminds me of rainbow trout. It's coming along nicely.

That is very nice. I have that exact knife in horn, but this one is much prettier. Thanks for sharing.

Astro a thin strip of solid brass is carefully hammered into a groove made by the kamis. There used to be a pic somewhere on the Internet that showed a kami doing just that. I don't recall if it's on the HI Website or another one.

The fullers look really good on this one. My new Salyan has some issues with the blade. It seems dented like a fuller was started on only one side, then not continued or matched on the other side. May have been a mistake. This one is really pretty.

thanks again Tycho! :D

Git 'r done Tycho! About the only thing better than getting a khuk yourself is seeing the look on other folks' faces when you give them one.
Well done hoss.

Happy birthday Beowulf, in my opinion chitlangis are some of the downright prettiest khuks made.

Please post some pics after you've finished with all the modifications! I'd like to see how things turn out in the end. What kind of finish are you going to put in the Neem wood?
