This is a real shot in the dark. Alright so to be clear from the get go, I'm not making this inquiry to buy said knife, but I'm curious about where he went!

I have a GEC 12 Smooth White Bone 128109 with Plain Shield that was produced as 1 of 2. My example was bought second hand and is unused or sharpened, though curiously it has no blade etch. Now every other toothpick from that run that I've seen is etched so I'm curious to know if perhaps thee 2 misfit toothpicks were somehow never etched. Maybe they were left overs and they never bothered to etch them. Chris at GEC said there's no definitive record, but that typically if it doesnt say no etch in their book then it was probably etched. From what she says It seems that the blades used to be etched before assembly in a large batch and then assembled, but when I was visiting GEC last week I noticed that they etched the blades as the last step (they dont even etch Tidioutes anymore, besides special runs like the Beer Scout). So here it is:

Does anyone know have the 2nd GEC 12 Smooth White Bone 128109 with Plain Shield?

Why would someone polish off an etch and then store a knife in tube before selling it to me 6 years later? lol

I thought this was about a knife from the movie lol. I hope you find the brother's owner, so we can see what's up.

Don't have an answer to your question. But the etches are not that easy to get completely off. You can buff them off to not-so visible, but they are generally still discernable. Also, that is not what they call a hotdog shield; attach is what the factory has called the hotdog shield.

I agree with Mike, that's not a hotdog shield. Maybe an hourglass shield? There is also a smooth white bone run that has the tidioute shield.

Unless I'm mistaken, that is the Tidioute shield without the letters stamped into it. Maybe there were a couple of leftover parts that didn't get branded and somebody put them together?

You know I'm not even sure why I wrote hotdog shield because I agree it definitely is not a hot dog shield. LOL I meant to just say plain shield as opposed to the Tidioute shield, which I also have.

This sounds likely to me. At this point I can't figure a good way to get definite proof. Thought seeing it's twin might help but who knows there's still the chance that one was etched and one wasn't. LOL. I hand it to GEC for shrouding their productions in mystery. keeps you on your toes.

whose this Jim you speak of, Bob?

My mistake, the city would be Spokane. An early GEC Collector. I haven't heard from him in a few years. I think he used to use the handle "one sandy jim" At one time, I think he had probably at least one of everything. Especially the rarities.
