Well...I just screwed up my Millie
The blade was jilted towards the lockside and I tried to take the knife apart and fix it. After putting it back together and tightening all the screws, I realized that 2 of them no longer have their heads (as in I can't tighten them or loosen them since the screwdriver just rolls around in the hole). Thankfully the problem occured AFTER I tightened them, so the knife is in no danger of falling apart. So now I have a jilted blade that I can't take apart to fix :grumpy:
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance...

The problem is that I'm in Australia and I got it from the factory store when I was in CO on a holiday :(

Have a drill press or such?

Left hand drill bits can be used to remove the heads and maybe the threaded part of the bolts.

If you drill the heads off, you can take the knife apart to get to the rest of the bolt to allow removal with vice-grips or such.

Then just put in new bolts.

i don't know if this will work on the millie but I have used a dremel with the cutting disc to make a small cut on the screw and then use a regular screwdriver to remove it.

Try and get an allen key a luttle larger tgsn thr torx head and smack it in good then slowly turn it to get it out.

I could always use a very thin drill bit to make to make two small holes on either side of the original hole (I have a drill bit that is small enough I think) It would then be a simple matter to use a small flat head screw driver to remove the screw.

the 1/16 allen head fits (the next size up doesn't) but i cant seem to get it to work. I think I need a really small screw extractor, but I don't think you can get them that small (1/16) and i would have to buy a replacement screw (no idea where to get them). assuming I can get the screw out without damaging it too badly, I was going to use a dremel and cut a slit in it so I could use a flat head screwdriver. Another idea would be to glue a screw driver to the screw, but I think that's pushing my luck...Any other ideas?

I really think you should send it to Spyderco. It shouldn't have an off center blade to begin with, and I'm not sure anybody short of a smith can fix it. Either put up with the shipping cost, or put up with a knife with jilted blade and rounded screws.

The blade itself is perfectly straight. Its just a off center when closed.

EDIT: I emailed Spyderco asking if I have voided my warranty by taking apart and how much I will have to pay to get the rounded screws replaced. Now we wait...

Drill a small hole in the centre and then use an Ezy out to remove the screw.

If you don't know what an Ezy out is go to a mechanics workshop and get someone to show you, they might even do it for you

Try and super glue the allen key that fits into the screw, take care not to put to much glue, go away and wait for it to set.may work may not???

Richard
Edit to add: Just read you other post seems you used a allen key instead of a torx bit

nah i used a torx 6 bit. it worked for a while, then all of a sudden it wouldn't grip the head anymore.

I had exactly the same problem with one of my Spydercos. Fortunately, the next larger size Torx bit would grip the screw head enough to turn it out.

If you do get the screws removed, Spyderco will mail you some replacements.
