Oh, how I've missed having one of these...

And then, out of the blue, I stumble across a NOS, perfect example. Everything I like and nothing unnecessary, plus massive boatloads of that old-school cool.

And yes, it's part serrated. And I don't mind one bit! If there's one knife model in the world of which I can say serrations are A-OK, it's this one. I don't know how the guys at Benchmade accomplished it, but it looks and "fits" just right also as a combo edge.

But seriously, plain or serrated, how could you not love a blade and grinds like this? :)

Great find, congrats on your new 812S. Plenty of blade beyond the serrations!

Yeap, I have the same one with coated blade. Great ergo's.
Congrats. Looks in great shape.

You know, this is exactly what I think makes the part serrated AFCKs so acceptable: the serrated part is just the right length that it doesn't start looking annoying or spoil anything. If it were just 15% longer I'd probably hate it. Plus the "teeth" are done in a nice unobtrusive pattern that blends in with the rest of the blade. As said, very tastefully executed by BM. :)

I do love that blade grind. It would be nice to see something similar with a thumb stud and Axis lock.

Why won't Benchmade make these again?
By far the best Benchmade knife of all time.

That knife looks perfect to me too, wish I could of picked one up, when they were readily available. AFCK 2 would be awesome.

If I were given an opportunity to redesign the Mini-AFCK there wouldn't be many changes. A little steel upgrade to some suitable CPM or Carpenter steel, perhaps thicken the blade and liners just a bit ( but liners could remain stainless to keep cost down and to keep the balance), option for some other colour G-10 besides boring old black. And redesign/reposition the clip so it doesn't block the index finger cutout in the handle.

I would keep it a liner lock (sorry Axis fans) because I don't much like extra switches and catches on handles. Liner lock at least gives a nice clean exterior look. Oh and no blade coatings unless strictly optional, better to choose a suitable stainless blade material that can be offered with a satin finish.

Now, who will make me such a knife? Anyone? Benchmade? Anyone? :)
