Just now realized it.

Followed Uncle over here from the other forum. Says it above, in Mar 99. And now it's five full years ( and a couple months ) later. Wonder when I started filling in as co-moderator? Probably somewhere round there. Have to look it up, sometime.

I remember when I first found HI over on Knifeforums. Took most of the week to read every single post on there before posting. There were maybe 3,000 posts then. Now I have 7,500 and Uncle has nearly 33,000. Because he thought if someone posted, they deserved an response from him.

Back then, Bill was grousing he hadn't had a day off in over two years. ( He hadn't! ) So I volunteered.

Enough of senile old geezers talking about the old days. But, til a couple years ago Bill and I knew and remembered stuff about the folks who stopped in at the Cantina. I can speak for him in saying that we didn't stop caring, we just eventually couldn't keep up and things got run together.

Did I mentioned every new guy or gal got a welcome from us? Water under the bridge.

And remember the "Phantom of the Khukura" thread that Spark finally killed off by archiving it at page 89 or something 'cause it was bringing the entire BF to a standstill when several folks kept accessing it...

" But that was yesterday, and yesterday's gone... "

Really wish I had been around then... Feel like I missed out on a bunch of cool stuff. Still, consider myself fortunate that I found HI when I did, and besides I was broke anyway for a good chunk of that time so only would have been able to window shop. :grumpy:

Here's to another 5 good years! :)

Regards,

Norm

Norm?

One of the neatest parts was that Yangdu thought she had FILL the boxes she sent out as orders, so each one (they were rectangular cardboard boxes then) was jam-packed with enough khuks so they wouldn't rattle. Heavy though. Then HI discovered old newspaper and triangular shipping boxes. Hasn't been the same since.

I'm still a newbie. My first post was 2/28/2002. Of the people who replied, only Rusty, Jim Clifton, and Uncle Bill are still here. My first HI khuk was a PGA (Pala's give aways) on 3/1, a 16.5" Chiruwa AK. Thanks to Uncle Bill, Rusty and all of you for 2 years, and 3 months of fun and friendship!

I searched the archives for the "Phantom of the Khukura" thread to no avail. Anyone find a link?

I have to read this.

If you find the thread let us know. It was a hoot. Hope some Bill Paxton (BilltheCat) cartoons made it to archive. :D

You and I have the same "birthday," Steve.

I echo your sentiments.

Speaking of missing persons, what ever happened to 'ol dog breath ...errrrr I mean uhhh -Blues?
Used to enjoy playing a few rounds with him :D

he's still around.....keeps his eye on the forum even though he doesn't post...

maybe this will draw him out...:D

It's been a great ride with you on the helm as first mate, Rusty.

I joined Bladeforums in February of 2001. My first post in the HI forum was on 8/30/02, and I purchased my first khukuri, a BAS by Sher, on 9/5/02. If I'd only known then what I know now about HIKV and the crazies that frequent the Cantina, I would have run away screaming :)

Rusty,

As a fellow old geezer (in 1999 I was posting as Finnean until somehow BF scrambled my account making me re-enter as Finn) I have always appreciated your wit, patience, and repartee. This forum has always been the Best with the Best.

What has always made this fourm stand out to me is the knowlege, humor, quality, and intelligence shown by so many of it's members.

Thanks for hanging in there and doing a great job!
