Codger (sooooieeeeee pigggg sooooiee my friend!!!), and I were talking about Schrade prices and such and he sent me this link on a Schrade mountain lion sheath knife sodl on ebay. I use to have one of these. I believe I paid around 25-29 dollars for it? I cannot believe how ridiculous ($255.00) the prices are getting on ebay!!!

This was an old fashioned knife fight between two enthusiastic newbies. The winner DID wind up with a really nice example NIB, but at about five times it's worth. To me anyway. The seller and I followed the auction blow by blow, and the funny part is he would have ended the auction early and sold me the knife for 40 if I had just asked. He and his best friend both use the 160OT's in their hunting adventures and, no, neither is willing to part with them........ but for $255 American, well............. :D

Tennessee and Arkansas hunt with Schrades

Kind of reminds me of this auction I went to in pangburn Arkansas. For those who may not be familar with the area (which are probably many) its a pretty rural area, not unlike the rest of Arkansas, but its fairly more humble.

Well I went to this auction and they were autctioning off a persons land, personal propery, etc.

Well to say the least broken barbie dolls were auctioned off for money good enough to buy news ones. The the two men had gotten into an "ole fashioned" duel and both felt compelled to "out do" the other in front of everyone that was there. It was actually pretty sad.

I went to a city firearms auction a few years back. A Ruger P89 with a chipped rear sight and no magazine (I had actually found it in the street and turned it into the police, with receipt, only to have the city claim it as their own, another story not worth dredging up) went for $400. A single-barreled 12 gauge went for somthing around $120. Some Lorcins and the like went for more than retail as well. Pretty amazing, actually.

Auction fever is a scary thing. And expensive for those new to it. I'm fortunate I've managed to overbid only on some fairly low dollar items.

Of course the upside is that we can probaly expect to see a nice supply of 160ot's in the next few weeks.

There's alway an upside. :)

Last week a 100 year anniversary stockman in the tin, with the pin, went for over $50. There's one on Ebay now at $41 and still climbin'. I mentioned about the bargain I got one for at a local big box store. Visited another store, and bought their last one for $15 on closeout. Oh, the store is 'Menards', but I think they are exclusive Michigan.

It's hard not to put some of my own shrades up on the block... I could always replace them in the future when (if) rational thinking sets back in at Ebay. Naw... think I'll keep 'em.

Here is another example, though not QUITE as extreme as the first.

A DU issue 160 pattern UH (mis I.D.'d as a 165 pattern) and a 12UH DU. They are nice, but I personally thought $106.00 was a bit steep. Maybe not.

There are still good deals on there and occasionally even Andy puts one up that goes for less than it's value. I am still buying one or two every now and then. I always bail before it gets crazy.

If only I had a ragged UH shirt And an Uncle George hat

The problem with Ducks Unlimited knives is that you have both DU item collectors and knife collectors going after them. I've had the same problem in trying to find a friend a Schrade 'Ted Williams' knife. I'm up against baseall/Ted fans and blade collectors.
Phil

Very true. And with the Federal Duck Stamp issues, you have a three way interest that includes stamp collectors. And I see people buying art knives for a lot more than either of those two bids.

Not to mention a guy with a 9/10 Ted Williams .22 that might like a knife to go with it! (Where did you say you saw that knife?......;) )

Personally, my advice is, if you can get them at a decent price then do it, by all means. If not then dont do it. You can find good prices, but if I were you, do a net searche on the "mom and pop" hardware store sites and such. The reason is many have not figured out the schrades are a "gold mine" yet. You'll probably pay retail, but its better than what ebay is doing!!! Ive found many that way, beleive me, its worth trying!! Just piut "schrade" in a search engine, or the model number and click on those sites you normally would pass over, you'd be surprised what you'll find!!! :D

Rev thats true, but there are also some bargins on ebay as well. An example is the 1ELK Jim Zumbo S.E. I found one locally for the everyday price of $62+tax, but there were three on ebay for $49.95 B.I.N. (no affiliation, etc.) Even some of the DU items are well below what they would have sold for in the store. One set I looked at that will end today is still half of what it sold for in the store. Granted, it could go through the roof in the last 30 seconds, but it might not. I snagged a used 15OT for less than $18 shipped the other day that I fully expected to go for near twice that.

Quite a few of the less popular models are at or below store prices (even though it looks like a bunch of folks raided Walmart and are starting the bid at the WM price - it appears without much success). And as I've show even some of the Special Editions are selling at or below retail (I wish I was on a steak budget instead of a beans 'n rice budget these days.)

Here are some of the examples of bargins that someone got:
7 Scrimshawed knives with matching SNs and a woodend display case for less than $25 per knife ($157)

Napa set with 2 knives and wooden display case for $66

Dang I wish I had a few Schrades. Sorry could not resist. Most of mine are those rotten old bone ones. LT

If your getting rid of the old stuff and looking for new,
I'll trade you a new 12OT PAL for your old S-W 151 or any of the old 155's you have in the bureau draw...

Hey big woofer, your package was mailed yesterday. Throw out what you don't want and Merry Christmas on the rest. I couldn't just send a hat. No big deal just some junk you might like. LT

You didn't enter the contest ( check out the big dog thread ). Who let this guy in well whoever did you let in a gentleman. Welcome aboard John. I will be at the Tuck show this weekend. I know the bar manager. By the way John was insturmental in my getting a WARDLOW this week one of the rarest knives ever made in Walden. Very few people have ever heard of it. Yes John is a Schrade a holic, as well as a Waldenphile he should fit right in I hope you stick around. LT

Hey LT....do you mean Wardlow Knife Company, Walden NY? One of the collectors that displays at the NCCA shows has a cattle pattern with that marking in his display....the only one I've ever seen.

Do you know any of the history of that brand/company?

Thanks for the grand introduction.......Lt. All new to me here. Not sure how the threads work, but I'll get the hang of it...............

I just paid $65 on shradeBay for a MIB 498L - opening bid and no other bidders. Some of you may think I got jilted...... I think I was lucky .
