OH Petition Process question?

Okay, in Ohio (and most other states) Balisongs are illegal to carry :( I like balisongs and they are great tools. They are arguably the best folding design for a knife seeing that the locking mechanism cannot fail on you unless the knife broke. I think it would be cool if Ohio were to un-ban balisongs. I just read a thread a little bit ago that said Indiana now allows switchblades. How would one go about starting a change in a law like that? If you live in OH, would you support that change? If you're not in OH, do you still like the idea? I really feel like any type of knife/gun control is stupid and only controls the law abiding citizen (and i want a nice balisong but can't justify buying a 200 dollar "flippy toy")

If I'm unclear, i just want to know how to propose this change in the rules. Do I have to write a congressman, etc.? Thanks!

I carry them anyways though.

lol, i seem to see a lot of that on here! I'm suprised I don't hear more "I am being charged with carrying a concealed weapon b/c of my switchblade i bought last week". Kind of reassuring that I am not doing anything wrong, so why should i care if my blade is .2 inches longer than u say i can have

There is gun and knife show held monthly by me,nd it is full of people walking around with autos and balisongs, and also full of police who's only question regarding them is where they can buy one.

Thats awesome! Where in OH, I might just have to stop on by.

Well to start, the Knife Rights bill in Indiana has only just passed the Senate, albeit unanimously, which is a good start. We still have to get it passed in the House and then have it signed by the Governor.

In my experience, the only practical way to change a law that effects a small minority of citizens is via effective advocacy lobbying. A petition or similar process stands little or no chance of working because that requires at a minimum tens of thousands of supporters. Unless you have a special relationship with a particularly powerful state legislator, enacting legislation requires money (lots!) and one-on-one lobbying. That's what Knife Rights does. We have proved we can get the job done. I have found no shortcuts.

We'd love to come to your state and "fix" your knife laws. This isn't a spectator sport. What will you do to help us accomplish that change?

We cannot do everything at once. But, we can continue to work towards the goal of a Sharper Future for ALL Americans. Support Knife Rights today so when we get to your state we have more victories to point to. Each state we succeed in makes it easier when we get to your state. Become a member or make a donation or both. We cannot do it alone.

From what I've understood, carrying a Balisong isn't illegal in Ohio.
At least not in Columbus.
I've carried balisongs and have had no issues at all.

Medina has a gun show on the 16th as well. Ask the folks there if they would partake. Medina county is mostly conservative folks,I'm sure there would be some interested people.
