soo... uh... i have an O&W MP2. I've posted reviews on these boards about it a few times.

this morning when i was winding it, right when it got to the end i felt a slight "snap" in the crown. normally, when it's at the end it just ceases to wind anymore.

so i opened the caseback up, and find a tiny, tiny screw that's loose and rattling around in the case. i can't figure out where the screw came from.

what should i do? the watch actually still works and winds and stuff so i'm going to keep wearing it.

oh yea, i forgot to mention... i lost that tiny screw.

I competent watchmaker should be able to find the hole and a screw to fix it...
A watchmaker, not some two bit hack at the local jewelery store who changes watch batteries.

Hi Midget-

In addition to the correct advice from MelancholyMutt above...once the mainspring runs out, DO NOT REWIND the watch. If the screw is lodged inside the case, it could cause galling or even jamming. If the screw has dropped free to your living room carpet, moving parts could allow other components to work completely loose.

Good luck with the repair.

here's an update on my O&W.

It is going to cost a fat stack to get this watch fixed (i checked industrial watch works and a local watchmaker). IWW predicted >50.00, my local watchmaker wanted almost 100.00. I bought this watch for about 140.00, so i'm not so certain that it's worth it.

so here's what i'm going to do. I have a custom 007 on it's way to me from bill yao so i'm not too worried about my O/W anymore.

I'm going to continue to use it as it is (missing a tiny screw from somewhere in the movement). I wound it last night and stuck it on my wrist, and it's running like a champ. I'll keep you all updated on if and when it dies.

and when it does die i'm going to try removing the dial/hands and replacing them on a new ETA 2801 movement. my little project, i guess.

anyhow, this watch is running with a part missing from the movement. i'm impressed. automatic watches are a lot tougher than one might expect.

However upset I can understand you might be with your watch, the title of your thread was unnecessarily vulgar. This is not Whine & Cheese.

ok, i apologize about that. you can kill this thread if you think it's too extreme.

once again, sorry about that.

I edited the title. Let this be a warning to all -- if you don't want to find yourself telling the world "Oh Pshaw!" then watch your language.
