My package from mike arrived and I got two nice piece. One is the Vesuvius, which is very nice, however I think it needs some adjustment because the blade could be moved when closed and hit the liners inside, making a clicking sound. FRN doesn't feel like FRN at all
, and the shell inlay definately make it friendlier with people who are not familiar with blades. The serrated spine really add lots to the Ergonomics. I've decided to keep it tip up because I'm lazy and it's not meant to be a fast draw blade (I'm a bit faster with tip down with the attire I'm usually wearing)
Anyway, when I opened the Renegade, I couldn't believe it. The handle is great for my hands. It has a classic clip point and definately I still haven't grasp the size of this knife. IMO it is quite a brute of a knife. Although a tad heavier than the Military, I fell very confident with it. The end of the handle could be used on pressure points if I do come around to have to use it for SD. The lock up is a good snap and locks solid, and drops when you press the lock release bar.
And the best of all, no hump. Although I'm quite use to it now, I still find that without the hump, my thumb travel less awkwardly, and the best of all, it's tip down (I prefer tip down). It also rides a bit high, but that just allows me to grab it a bit easier.
My Endura is a great piece, with VG10, too bad that when I got it, only 50/50 is available. The renegade features more like 60P/40S, and I think it has a decent balance because I would rarely find a chance to cut rope and stuff.
G10 feels nice, but I like the rougher texture of the Mili better.
I personally don't know why Spyderco would discontinue this monster of a knife. It's a great piece, and thank god I got the last one from Mike (It would have been sold soon anyways if I didn't get it). I think personally if Spyderco would feature version of the Renegade and Blackhawk without serrations, and enlarged opening hole, I'll buy as many as my bank account would allow.
