It's a lazy day here in Delaware, so, instead of wasting time trying to catch some Z's (by the way, apparently, I snore quite loudly, bet you did not know that, seeing as probably none of you have any inclination to travel all the way to DE just to hear someone sleep...which sounds pretty stalker-like to me...not that any of you are stalkers, its just what it sounds like I said, it sounded stalkerish....), I thought I would pop in to the Cantina, and say hi, along with some other things.
So, let's begin with: How's everyone doing this fine, not-so-fine, or in between day? I'm doing just dandy, just got back from NC, crammed into a Civic for 8 hours in the back seat...not so fun, but now that I am here and babbling like a brook, I feel better. Right now, I'm looking at all sorts of blades and edged tools, ranging from the somewhat mundane utility knife to the unusual category-defying Manticuda knife from Hardpoint Tactical. Anything useful, really. I only mentioned the Manticuda 'cause it popped up suddenly in my brain whilst I was thinking, I was not really looking at it, instead, I used it as a description.
Anyway, yeah, I like useful tools. Sure, I'm a fantasy dude as well, I like some of those funky blades that could just as well sever my head instead of my opponents, but, at least in this respect, I keep fantasy and reality separate.
Speaking of fantasy, I drew up a little sketch of something I call a Korax. Tell me what you think of it, is it even slightly practical, or will it never even begin to get off the pages in terms of functionality? I can see a whole host of problems just by looking at it, but anything else looked too ordinary for me. I was thinking, if I got rid of the faceted edges and made the curve even more radical, that it might actually be similar to a battle sickle/axe rather than a Kora/axe, but yeah, tell me what you all think of it. If it's ugly and I should know, by golly, tell me and I'll scrap it, it only took a minute to draw and thirty seconds to crisp up the outline. Here you all go:

Now that that is overwith, I have a confession to make. As much as I love swords and big machete-like things, in my opinion, they don't have a whole lot of functionality. You don't hear about the Swiss Army Sword everyday, know what I mean? I have sort-of learned that less can be more, though I still like my blades large and in charge in terms of the steel's gauge/spine thickness. So what I was thinking of for my next blade is a no frills, ugly, glorified pry bar of a knife, similar to the one I was gushing over a few months ago, you know, the sheepsfoot from Sheffield Footprint Tools or something, that is around 5/16" thick? I was thinking a much larger handle that is ergonomic or something like that, and a different sort of geometry for the blade. I might if Auntie Yangdu can spare some Damascus (Nepalese style Damascus, of course), just because I like function and beauty in a blade, probably a subtle damascus, although I could easily go for a powerful mosaic style damascus too. But that would probably jack up the price a mountain and a half...much as I wish I could drop a couple hundred on a single knife, I can't...YET....
Any suggestions on how to make my Korax/ Korickle a more feasible idea would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.
Peace to all.
David
