A true BM 259. I'm stoked! Thanx so much Andrew!

I wasn't sure what to expect. I mean, all I've seen are pictures, so you know...It sure is heavy. The Jaguars do move quite similarly to the original. I guess the pins aren't as good though.

Is there supposed to be as much blade play as there is? It's still beautiful and I do love it!

Wahoo! :D :D :D

Yea!! I'm glad it got there OK.
I wasn't too sure about the blade play either, but I really hadn't handled it much since I got it last summer.

I'm glad it found a good home.. :)

I got one just before Christmas and broke the handles just after. Mine had quite a bit of play in it but I didn't buy it to be just a 259 but a 259Mer ;) . So who cares. The blade play was beyond my normal tolerances so apart it came. Oh well.

Blade play ?? I don't know -- I have a plain and a black version, both NIB -- they wee bought as "collectors" and both have a lot of play ---but, not when they're latched. ?????

Are we all sure that Clay's fix will help my BM 259? It doesn't look like the pins are coming loose, but rather that there is just a lot of space between the blade and handles. I don't want to take a hammer to the thing if I'll be damaging the knife. Although I would like this to be my EDC.

When I do the stress test, I can put the latch down all the way on the outside of the handle when the knife is open. (with room to spare).

That condition is the cause of the the blade play. No gap, no blade play. No gap, no space to allow the handles to go way out of alignment like that. Or you can just leave it sloppy.

It sounds like you are less than psyched with the deal...?:( ?

One possible remedy would be for you to re-pin it with washers to take out the gap. The knife I sent, had a little (very little) manipulation use, and almost no damage, so I thought that this is just how they came. I haven't had vast experience with the older BM's, so I haven't been able to compare it to anything. You could have Mer take a look at it and make some washers, He probably won't charge that much for it..

I'f you're really unhappy, I'll take it back.
I haven't cashed the check yet.

Let me know.

No! No! I love the knife. It's beautiful and I've wanted one for a long time! So no! Cash the check! I'm keepin' it!! I just want to eliminate that blade play. If it comes to it, I'll send it to Mer (I'll ask him first), but otherwise, I'll "try" the fix on Clays site. I'm affraid I'll scratch the knife though.

Andy: Don't feel bad. They were hits and misses when they were new. Some came with great handle alignemnts, others, like the one Jeff got were pretty sloppy.

Jeff: The process isn't that hard, if done carefully. I used to have to do it for my friend's balis' all the time.

I wasn't able to repin mine, The bushings that fill the blade/pivot holes didn't want to let go of the pin. But you could certainly bash it couple o times and that should fix it.

Won't benchmade do a tune up for you? If the latch can go outside the handles it is pretty sloppy. I would recommend calling them and asking if they will still cover it under warrenty. Ask about life-sharp too. They may sharpen it for free also.

The 259's do not have a warranty as I asked Angie about that very same thing. They will sharpen it for you though this is what Angie wrote me about it:

Mykl,
The 259's are not warrantied like most of our knives. They can be sharpened for you but we don't do much more than that now.

Thank You,

Angie

I got my Jaguar 259 copy today. Funny thing, I got a bali-keychain with it too. *cute* Other thing about Jaguars. I never realized how cheap they are made. I didn't think there was going to be much difference between the BM and the copy, but boy was I wrong! Someone else mentioned a "crooked" blade when locked open. Mine does it too. Sux. But the purpose of this knife was so I could get Mer to do some handles. Just have to save the money for that now. Poopoo!

Way back when I was selling those things, I didn't think too much of them. Sold the first batch and did not order any more. Wish I had a warehouse full of them now.

What Tony said.. I've had quite a few of those over the years and almost all were bought "New". Some were very well aligned and as well-toleranced as you'd expect for a knife in that price range. Some were pretty loosey-goosey right out of the box.

It's a nice blade I think.., and as mentioned I'm guessing Eric can fix it in a heartbeat! :)

I do think the "fix" on Clay's site will work Jeff.., and if not Eric is "In the Wings"
