This weekend I went to a local flea market to see if they had any old knives laying around. I was quickly dissapointed....There were about 4 different tablefulls of peoples knives, and all they had on them were those garish, poor quality frost folders, and their huge useless bowies. Mostly that stuff you can buy off the tv in bulk . Curious, I asked one of the vendors what they were selling them for. Most of the folders were about $20, and the man was trying to sell me the bowie for $75. Even worse, I was told that id be getting the knife for a bargain, as the msrp was $90. I continued to question the man and got a variety of odd answers. When I asked about the steel grade, the only answer I got was that the blade had a "roswell rating of 56 hardness". I asked him what the "roswell rating" meant and he told me that It was a way to rate the hardness of a knife, as if I were an idiot. He told me That the knives were of the highest quality available, and would beat out any other knife I had ever owned. Off to the side the man had what I first thought was a black ka-bar. Upon closer inspection I discovered that it was a knockoff made out of the same pos stainless as all the other stuff on the table.

Idk what that has to do with anything, but I thought it was a bit funny.

Yeah, so funny that Frost is laughing all the way to the bank while thousands of people end up with a closet full of junk knives that no one wants ot buy from them. Buyer beware, as the saying goes.

I thought the "Roswell rating" was how may UFO's are seen at different times of the year.

Regards

I don't know about a roswell rating, but if you ever get a knife made out of metal found around Roswell, NM, you will have something very special.

Funny you should mention Roswell blades. Here is a pic of a blade forged by a local Roswell Smithy my Dad picked up when he was an AP in the service after WW2.

Oops!! I think I left it in stealth mode when I took the pic. If i can find the knife I'll try more pics later.

I take care at swap meets and flea markets to eyeball knife tables quickly and avoid talking to the seller. They are educated about knives from whatever literature comes with the big box of crap from HSN, so actually talking to them might lower your IQ.

It may have been Roswell tested -- a lot of those Frost bowies look like they were designed by aliens, and their tag line on the show now makes sense "the finest cutlery on this or any other planet" :barf: :D :barf:

haha that show is on tv now....I love how he pronounces the word bowie, "boowie". That washington dc sword looks sweet though. I mean, it has like a 5 foot long blade and weighs 26 pounds! that would make a sweet weapon. I dont know why anyone would buy a sword that weighs 26 lbs. It would be dangerous as a wallhanger, and not good for anything else.
