Hi-
Came home from another "one of those" days at work today, walked in the door to find my wife grinning at me from the kitchen table. We said hello and she produced a small brown box from beneath the chair. Addressed to me from The Knifecenter, I opened it up- and almost hit the floor- a brand spankin' new decorated small Sebenza. This comes on the heels of us just finding out our first is on the way, and I just sold nearly all my knives to help stow away some coin for "little clip's" arrival. And they say 1 out of 3 marriages end in divorce!
Really this thing is awesome, and the picture from the Knifecenter page doesn't even come close to depicting it accurately. I hadn't held a small in a long time- it's a very nice size. And I can see where a person would feel the large is a bit too large, depending on the type of work you'll employ it for. I've got a digital camera at work, I want to try and take some better pictures of it, but for now- here's a link to a picture, it's the top knife shown. http://www.knifecenter.com/knifecenter/reeve/sbsmsc.html
In this pic the milled out diagonal section looks kind of light purple but is actually blue in some light and a dark violet in other light depending on how you hold it. The remaining three horizontal lines are dark violet. Also, I thought in the picture it looks as if the edges of the milled diagonal are uneven and random, but there is a pattern to the lines and they are perfectly finished.
The only thing I would change if I could are the assembly screws, which have a dull finish- ok, but against the polished front slab I would love to get a hold of some polished ones. But hey, I'm nit picking. And I like the slip pouch, very nice- I never knew it had the "Think Twice, Cut Once" slogan on the back, pretty cool. And to greenie, if you read this, it's ok to put it in the leather sheath. You will be able to see little leather grain impressions on the polished slab, but they wipe off like finger prints. I had an Umfaan with the polished slab, carried it constantly, and never saw the slightest scratch.
Sorry to ramble on, but I wanted to share with my fellow Sebenzanistas. Thanks Chris for making this one- and more importantly thanks to my wife- she rules! To those who knock the Sebenza I say HAH! They really do have an unexplicable "soul" to them, don't they?
