Just got these two from Monkey Edge - limited edition Strider DB and DB-L with frag grips and with the infamous 3V steel. These rascals are 1/4" thick, and if you look up the definition of sharpened prybar these will be pictured.

For those that haven't followed Ankersons numerous threads regarding 3V or have seen this youtube video - I encourage you to check them out.

Monkey Edge tested the thinner .190" thick DB in 3V - tough stuff. These I just got are THICKER - .250". I had to pick one up after seeing that video.

Wasn't sure which one would feel better in the hand - so I had to get both as no one local to me is a Strider distributor. I will probably not keep them both - the hard decision will be which one to keep. (Shown next to my Victorinox Climber).

Just thought I would share - if anyone else has one in S30V or 3V I'd like to hear you experiences (either model). What's the worst you put yours through?

I did some comparisons a while back with Fehrman 3V, Strider S30V and Busse INFI.
No major destruction tests, but I did bash 'em all pretty good, including a major tip stab into some very hard concrete.
All survived unscathed.

What surprised me most was how tough Striders S30V turned out to be.

3V stands up to anything a non-moron can put it through.
The best part is that it holds an edge better than the other "super" tough steels.

Nice masonry chisels! Do you plan on EDCing one of those monsters?

I tried that with a regular s30v db for about 6 months. Even with no cordwrap or scales it ended up being too heavy/bulky for me.

Keep the -L and use the crepe out of it!

ETA: The worst I put mine through was reprofiling the main edge to something around 20 degrees per side. I think they are 22.5 from the factory (kind of dull for me). It just ended up not being what I was looking for. You can't turn a DB into an EDC slicer. That just isn't what they're for.

They are heavy due to stock thickness, but not too heavy for me as I usually carry a big folder. These are definately "sharpened prybars" and both came with what I call a working edge - they will cut things but not very well.

I plan on having one with me to support my folder - nights and weekends.

I've seen pics of others who have reprofiled the edges and the tip - but I won't do that as the thing is so thick I can't see it becoming a phenomenal cutter.

I thought the guy from Monkeys Edge was nuts for subjecting the one in the video to the abuse - but when you hold these in your hands they instill a lot of confidence (and you want to break things with it).

I had the DB in my shop last night, and stabbed it, twisted it and drilled holes with it into a variety of different types of wood scrap I had laying around (pine, oak, poplar, cedar) and there was NO evidence that the knife had done any work - if I had done that with most of my knives I would have probably done some damage or maybe even broken a tip. These two from Strider are beasts.

I just got a DB-L today! Black Oxide...unfortunately the monkey edge cpm 3v has been sold out for quite some time now...so I had to settle for s30v.
