Hello All

My newest addition to my collection Custom Buck shop 110, S30v, Cherry Wood w/ studs and Nickel plated got some rust after first time of use

I decided to use the knife during the BBQ last weekend and somehow the knife ended up on dishwasher.(this sucks I should had known better not to let my wife use(she had good intentions on getting it clean))

When I checked this morning the knife was in the kitchen and had some rust on it.

What can I do to fix and remove this rust...there is some stain on the bolsters also, what can I do to clean this up?

Wow that sucks-on the dishwasher or through the dishwasher?

I'd say just put some oil on it like Hoppes gun oil open and close it to clean it, clean it out again and then just keep oiled-should be ok.

Cleber, that's sucks about your new custom knife... Leroy R. told me a long time ago not to ever put any of my Buck knives in a dishwasher... You can get pits on the blade and rust... ... Hand wash is ok but always dry it real good with a hair dryer... ITE ...

Try some flitz metal polish on a q-tip to get in the tough spots, then wash with dish soap, and rinse/dry very well.Give it a drop of oil in the pivot, you'll be ok.

I agree with RAZORBLADES, the problem at this stage is only cosmetic and very fixable. Just don't put it in an electric dishwasher again.

Remember too, that a user is subject to real world dents, scratches, patina, etc. and the only way to keep it looking out-of-box new is to never use it.

Simichrome, and don't let your wife use your good knives (my wife is a serial knife abuser, and after 41 years I have given up trying to change her:o).

Nice knife!
IMO that is the stuff that gives a knife character.

But if you have to ask, and insist on it looking like new, it should probably go to the spa.

:):):)

Like Razor said, Flitz or Mothers Mag wheel polish and use elbow grease and cloth . Then just keep rubbing . After it goes away wash and use oil on that area and keep it in your shop . DM

hehehehhe.... its true first signs of character...I love this 110 it has my last name engraved and the goal is to be a user!!!!
I was just concern regarding the rust on the blade...
What kind of oil to use? gun oil?
I'll get some mother polish to clean up the bolsters.
Thx everyone for the input.

I think JB mentioned the name of some real good stuff which I don't remember . I just use 3 in 1 oil . Also, Razor could you tell us the story on the Bear mount in your Avatar . DM

I use Hoppes oil out of a gun cleainig kit-works great, no smell, doesnt get sticky. Tastes good with steak if you dont wipe it off good enough before using:p

I have used Mothers let dry and scrub with the rough side of those green and yellow pot scrubers and clean with a fresh cloth

S30V is my favorite steel for any user, but it does require some care and maintenance. I do not use it in salt water fishing, for example. Though it is classified as a stainless, it will stain, tarnish, rust, corrode, etc. more easily with salt water than 420HC, for example. It is almost not a stainless steel, but is a high performance steel and an excellent user.

That is a bear I took last fall ,the first one after my dad passed away,I shot it from a stand with my bow overlooking one of the first places in the woods my dad ever took me hunting ,I shot a nice 8 pointer from the same tree ,haven't got him back from the taxidermist as of yet.Bear was 275 lb live weight, both were very special so i mounted them to have the memories i guess.
