I never understood the whole Emerson pocket snag Wave thing. Seen people even modify their other knives to wave them. I just didn't get it. Emersons are a bit over my current budget. A big bit. And after looking at them, they looked ok. But the money plus the not getting the wave plus meh style equaled no go.

AND THEN.....

I noticed the a little company called Kershaw, whom I have other knives from, has these Emerson designed knives in their lineup. Ok, now things are interesting. For $30ish bucks, the CQC-4K, Emerson design, wave thingy, etc. Not an Emerson, but I can now test the waters, right?

Holy Geez! It hit me from the moment of first snag! This thing WORKS! Almost like seeing a nekkid girl for the first time when I was a kid! (ok, not quite!)

You know, I think this Emerson company might have something with this design!:)

Glad to hear you are happy; I don't have one of the Kershaw models, but I do love my Emersons.

Always glad to see people expand their horizons, Emerson do tend to be a little hit or miss with the designs for me, but I do love my Zealot.

I like the wave feature. IIRC, Ernie didn't design it to do that...more of a bottle opener. From what I read, some Navy Seals discovered that it opens instantly from the pocket and told Ernie about it. Not sure what is fact and what is fiction...
The Emerson/Kershaw idea is a darned good one...IMO.

That's exactly right (at least that's the exact story Mr. Emerson tells at a Blade Show, you can find the video on YouTube). So unless he's embellishing a good bit that's exactly how it came to be.

I've never been comfortable with the Wave feature, even with practice I was too afraid of cutting myself on the draw or tearing my pants, sadly.

I've had my Kershaw Emerson CQC5K for all of 12 hours and have pulled it with the Wave feature around a dozen times. My shorts now have a couple of nicks in the fabric near the pocket. I am pretty sure that it was from one of my first few pulls, and I think I have it figured out now, but it does make me worried about how many $40 work jeans my new $30 knife will ruin over the next few years.

It is pretty freaking awesome to pull with the Wave feature though. Ridiculously fast, and pretty loud. I'm expecting weird looks if pulled that way in public.

Ahhhhhhhh.... G'durhhhh. Enjoy the knife, and get a real Emerson when you can. They're even better!.... And most of em even have that mystical, magical wave thingy.

knives with the wave are even faster than autos. Once you draw them, they're open and ready for business! With an auto, you have to draw it like any other knife, get your hand situated, and push the actuating mechanism. (Which really takes the same amount of time as flicking any other knife open in the usual manual manner) Then, finally, the blade pops out and presents itself..... Why are autos illegal in some states again? With the wave, draw the knife and the blade is out!

Even faster is the most tacticalliest of tactical knives - the fixed blade. No wave to get hung up or worry that it will deploy correctly, just draw and done. It's out, in your hand, "open" and ready..... So why haven't these "quick draw fixed blade knives" been banned yet?
